Don't have a solution to this problem, but I'm having a similar problem. The remote works for the fan but the other day we had a light bulb burn out and ever since then the switch on the remote for the light will not work, but the fan works just fine. If anyone has a solution please post it or email me at email@example.com Thanks

Home Depot sells universal remote systems (transmitter and receiver) for around $30 (in Delaware & Pennsylvania) -- don't know price in Chicago).
I'd just replace it. Hunter may be correct that they are the only source for the receiver, but if you get a new transmitter as well, you don't need their receiver. The labor is the same either way.

check the hard wiring from the factory. Where the light kit attaches to the fan check the wires in the factory cubes to make sure none are coming off. I had a similar problem that kicked my **** for a few minutes but I saw a loose wire after a bit of research. My fan also clicked but never turned on. Also pull the chains on the fan/light to make sure they are on. Hope something works for you.

You will most likely need to replace the receiver with a new one from hunter. The receiver is actually a complete controller and contains the receiver, relays (which you hear clicking) and starting condensors(large capacitors which hold a charge that is "dumped" over the windings to get the motor to start from a dead stop). These appear to be pretty tightly assembled unless you have a desire to start replacing parts "off the board."
