Check your battery symbol.
On mine, the battery is dead (or mechanically disconneced inside).
You need to reset the unit by pressing the tiny button on the back.
Problem is that when you remove the unit from the charging stand, the dead battery does not allow you to press the reset button. (Pressing the reset button with no battery cannot reset the unit)
IF you could press the reset button while plugged into the charger, you could get you unit working again. But..alas, the design of the unit prohibits you from doing so.
Chances are if you fix the battery problem, you will have a usable unit again.

Same problem with ours, took it back to the shop (Halfords) after 18 months, tthey sent it to TomTom who replaced the internal rechargable battery and now it's OK.
