Squeelling I have a 4 yr old electric dryer, it just started to squeel a little. Also when you open the front door it has a slight burning smell. I don't know if this is normal , but there seems to be excess play in the drum. Thank You Shawn

Your belt is bad. good news though, it is easy and cheap to replace. first, using your model number, order a new one online. there is many sites and it should cost around 15 bucks. to open your dryer, there is a panel on the bottom of the front that needs to come off first, there is usually 2 screws holding it on. then, you can get to the front panel to remove it. now, with a flashlight, look inside the bottom of the dryer to see how the belt is on (so you can get the new one on properly) and reach in and take the belt off the motor, there should be a tension pulley holding it on. then slide the drum out and out with the old and in with the new. take your time and remember how everything came apart, you should be done in about an hour.

Remove front panel and door on maytag electric dryer atlantis

Simple, 4 screws total. open door, remove one screw from each of the door hinge plates that are against the front panel, remove two screws directly across the door opening (other side of dryer), door can be lifted slightly and pulled out of slots, and front panel can be unhooked from retaining clips by a little wiggling at the top sides, swing it down toward the floor and lift it from bottom retaining hooks.

There's a slight burning smell coming from the dryer drum.

Some item may have gotten between the drum that rotates and the housing and during the rolling of the drum this item may be heating up from the friction. Check closely to see if you can find anything rubbing on the drum.

Dryer stopped working after working w/door open or closed

Sounds as if the door switch/latch had stuck.the smell was probably a small short. try unplugging unit. But I would imagine you need door latch/switch replaced

GE evolution dryer has intermitent squeeling!

Is the belt slipping? Check and see if it is worn. Open door, remove 2-4 screws at 12:00 position, lift up cover. The belt is the little band wrapped around the big thing.

Either one of 2 ways to get to the thermostat on a GE dryer.....

depending on your model, you will have an access point on the back of the dryer to get to the heating element which has attached to it, the thermostat.

If there isn't an access point on the rear of the unit, open the front door of the dryer and remove the 2 screws in the top of the door opening. Using a small prybar, slightly apply pressure prying up the lid. On the inside of the face of the dryer in the corners will be 2 more screws, remove those and pull the face of the dryer outwards to you to about a 45 degree angle. From there, you will be able to lift off the face. Be cautious to unplug the wires for the door switch before pulling the face all the way out. There isn't much to a 10 yr old dryer, just take your time, study the parts and put it back just as you took it apart. For the replacement thermostat or heating element look at

Good luck and let me know if there is any more trouble I can help with.
