I have a problem with a 15" flat screen vf51. There is power, the green light comes on and a message 'signal out of range'. Then power light goes orange. I can just see a faintmessage box but cant read it. This is my mums, I took it to get it fixed for her. I need to know what is wrong with it so I dont get overcharged. Can anyone help please. How much should I expect to spend? If it is the lamp or bulb? If it is Inverter circuit? If it is a video circuit?

Re: hp pavilion vf51
It is the inverter board that is causing the screen to be feint. But is was the video resoloution being set too high that made it give the "out of range" message.
It's not easy to get anywhere to repair LCD monitors, and the prices could be well out of scope to bother with the repair.
Having said that, you can now call a few TV repair centres close to you and ask for a quote based on repairing the inverter circuit.
Hope that helps =)

Turned on computer (Pavilion a1657c), HD light operates, Monitor has little window saying:
HDMI Input: No Input Signal
VGA Input: No Input Signal
Recommended Settings: 1920x1080 - 60hz
Changed from the monitor that came with it (HP f2105 digital ouyput) to my Samsung analog and same message comes on dark screen.
jcdiekfuss, First verify that you have audio signal coming out of the light-green audio-out "jack on the PC!! Use an external pair of "wall-wart" powered speakers to verify. Notify me of result. You can also try to "feed" low-level audio from a radio or CD player "ear-bud" jack to the LCD monitor's audio input jack for testing purposes. Good luck. 12fixlouie

When the video card signal exceeds the frequency allowed for the monitor, the following error message may occur:
Sync out of RangeSOLUTION:
To avoid the message, lower the resolution or vertical frequency of the video card.
Reboot the system and use the VGA mode to force the video card driver to lower its resolution. Follow these steps.
Shut down and restart the system.
For consumer systems such as HP Pavilion desktop PCs, push the Power button once.
For commercial systems such as HP business desktop PCs, hold down the Power button for five seconds.
Immediately after seeing the HP/Compaq logo screen, press F8 at system startup to initiate the bootup menu.
Scroll down to highlight Enable VGA Mode , and press ENTER .
After Microsoft Windows completes its bootup process, access the Display Properties and select a desired resolution, which is compatible to the connected monitor.
This message apears when there is no input coming from your computer. There should be a bution you can puch on the monater that would cnahge it from digatail to analog this may be the problem that you are having problems with

I have fixed a lot of these monitor with no problem.
If possible, try a new video cable. If it does not correct itself with a new cable, the problem is not serviceable. Flat screens do one of three things: inverter will go out (no light), line input board signal failure and power supply low volts on 12v B+.
