Water leaking from whirlpool gold refrigerator

We have had this fridge for a year. Small pools of water are leaking from underneath the freezer. Can this be caused by us being overdue on changing the filter?

When refrigerators leak water it usally is a sign that the defrost drain found inside the rear of freezer and behind the rear panel of freezer has become clogged with ice or gunk. Sometimes the pan below refrigerator has a crack and allows water to leak onto floor. SOURCE: whirlpool gold side by side freezer not freezing but fridge is running

Your fan in the freezer is wearing out. When your food in the freezer is blocking the air, the motor is working too hard. After years of using, it needs to be replaced. Get a repair man in to replace with a new parts. My Fridge/Freezer was totally broken and I found this out because the ice was melting. It got fixed and now no problem.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold refrigerator water leaking

If it's flooding, it's NOT the drain pan. It's probably the water valve has gotten stuck in the open position. Hope this helps!

Hotpoint Ultima Fridge/Freezer keeps leaking underneath

yes this is probably the source of the problem - the defrost water doesn't flow down the drain.

melt the blockage with hot water till you get free flow down the drain - takes a bit of patience
