Question about Computers & Internet
Want to keep current 500gb sata hdd that came with the pc and add a SSD that is sata3. Will motherboard and system handle this ok? (already know I need to get an adapter to hold the 2.5" drive ina 3.5" bay) thanks
Unfortunately the motherboard of the Dell Inspiron 530 supports RAID 0 5 and the maximum speed will be 3Gb/s that means that the motherboard only supports SATAII. If you want to have a SATA III SSD you will need to change your motherboard.

PrashantP, your board does not support SATAII. As mentioned by Asus:
Qusetion: Why can't my SATA-II hard drive be detected on VIA VT8237 chipset based motherboard?
This may be caused by the fact that VIA 8237/8237R South-bridge chipsets does not provide upward compatibility with SATA-II hard disk drives at 300 MB/s. These HDDs may not even be detected at POST. To install a SATA-II hard drive, users need to lock the drive at 150 MB/s data transfer rate by HDD jumper setting. Please refer to the following jumper setting from HDDs manufacturers or visit their website for latest updates.
Even if you updated your bios it will have no effect.
This is also why your SATA drive is not being seen by the bios.
Anymore questions PrashantP? Just post back here.

You are correct. The Asus P5K does support SATA RAID configuration. Page 4-14 in the user manual.
Congifuration [Enhanced]. Only real option is IDE. That does not mean the SATA drives will run like an IDE. The SATA's will function faster. In order to get RAID function you would need to have bought the Asus P5K Deluxe. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P5K%20Deluxe/WiFi-AP&SLanguage=en-us
