I have a emachine w3619, i let my son use it and he changed the login password and cant remember it. and i cant figure out how to get into my computor. how do i go about getting into my computor

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista? Windows 7?

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Mode option. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it gets to the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the userid for which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgot the password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

CAN'T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. DELL DEMENTIONS 1100 DESK TOP WINDOWS XP COMCAST SAID IT'S THE LAN ADAPTER.

You can download the LAN and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

I HAVE A DELL 2300 WINDOWS XP I TURN IT ON AND IT DOES A DISK CHECK THEN WINDOWS THEN DESK TOP APPEARS ICONS LOAD THEN THE COMPUTER TURNS OFF BY IT SELF. I'VE DONE THIS A NUMBER OF TIMES BUT NO LUCK

There are two reasons for this problem

1. Windows XP may be corrupted, You re-load the operating system. Preferably after formating
the HDD.

2. The processor may overheat. You clean up the cooling assembly (FAN, HEATSINK, and
(apply fresh heatsink compount on the processor)

Hot to retrieve my desk top icons

OK what OS are you using..I am assuming Xp or Vista...I am assuming XP

These are desktop icons not system tray icons right...

This is for XP only if they are desktop icons...

To resolve this behavior, turn on the Show Desktop Icons feature:
  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Point to Arrange Icons By.
  3. Click Show Desktop Icons.
  4. If that didn't work go here:

No desk top icons only internet explorer no yahooo aim yahoo start up buttton noo programs

I'm not sure what operating system you are using but if you can get to All Programs we'll start there. On Windows XP Click Start>All Programs. Find the program you would like to see on your desktop. Right-click on the program and choose "Create Shortcut". Once the short cut is created it will still be in All Programs, you have to click on it and drag it to your desktop. You can do this on any program.

Bios setting problem

This happens because Windows is corrupted.

You need to start the computer with a windows install disk, or a factory recovery disk inside to reinstall the system.

Get a windows install disk and reinstall the system.

The flash drive purchased doesnot work when pjugged into the usb port on my desk top but it work on my lap top? How do I get it to work on my desk top

Hello claponte

FIRST, THE HARDWARE SIDE:
If you just purchased your flash drive, then it is using the USB 2.0 (high speed) standard. Prior to that were USB version 1.1 and, before that, USB 1.0 standards.

USB 2.0 devices will still work when plugged into USB 1.1 ports - just at a reduced speed)

However, computers w/ USB 1.0 ports cannot properly detect USB 2.0 devices. On those computers, you'd need to install a USB 2.0 expansion card in order to add USB 2.0 functionality to the computer.

SECOND, THE SOFTWARE (DRIVERS) SIDE:
On the software side, USB devices are "plug-and-play" on Windows XP & Vista systems. This means they do not require special drivers or installation for them to work properly. The drivers needed for them to operate are already built into the operating system.

However on operating systems prior to Windows XP (Windows ME, Windows 98SE, Windows 98...) drivers are needed for USB devices to be detected properly.

These are two possible reasons why your flash drives don't work on your desktop computer.
(01) The computer is an older one using USB 1.0 technology
(02) The operating system is pre-Windows XP

Another possibility is (if your computer USB ports are at least 1.1 standard and your operating system is at least Windows XP) there is an issue w/ the USB ports on your desktop computer. This could be a hardware or a software issue still.

Please, let us know if that's the case and we'll help you to trouble-shoot the issue.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have any further questions.

Thank you
BJ
