Question about Philips 9P6044C 60" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Convergance/bowing I have a similar convergance problem as others have posted. The alignment is okay in the center but gets progressively worse towards the right and left edges using the convergance menu. Another problem is that it looks like a sideways hourglass, with the top and bottom edges bowed in a concave line. Is this just a case of replacing the STK convergance IC's, or is it something more? My IC's are STK392-110 with rather dry, but solid coverage of silicon goo btw. Haven't tried replacing the silicon yet.

Long time coming, but I just wanted to follow up on this. All in all it is fixed now. Thank you techman! I took the board in to a TV repair shop as I didn't feel to comfortable soldering the new IC's in. They found that one of the caps (220 I think) near it had also blown out. They replaced the cap and IC's with newer model STK392-180's and the TV is back in buisness again. $95 bucks out the door.

The top slants a little to the right, but I think I just need to get in there and play with the manual controls some. The owner I inherited this from had moved them around a lot trying to fix the original problem. Thanks again for the input.

You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Hope this helps,

Most like tes thats all your going to have to replace + the silicon as if you dont thet wil not last as long as they should. Also you may have blow fuseable resistors next to the ICs make sure you check them as well.

have you reset the convergence parameters after installing the kit to fix the option? Usually you will need to reset the defaults to get the outer edges back in alignment.

The green alignment lines are bowed up in the center of the screen where is the adjustment for this.

As far as I am aware, there is no adjustments on projection tvs. If there is on this one, it would be in the back behind rear cover. I believe that the convergance is controled by a "Y" board or system main board

Red and blue convergence wont line up. What should i do.

convergance can be tricky and you should follow a manufacturers proceedure from a manual.

most specificaly start with the green H and V Linearity and center , then the Red and Blue

Projection TV's and Component Video RGB have their Horizontal and Vertical Sync signals on the Green Component..

There may be other reasons for their specific order of operations within a calabration proceedure such as your 'RGB convergance alignment'

Convergance, and distorted projection, colors will not align

These tv's have a separate convergence power supply that goes bad. This will cause the problem you are having. Depending on the age of your tv, the board may be available
