Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

Panasonic DVC deck AJ-SD93P - everything seems to be patched correctly, but the tape will play for 4-5 seconds and then I get Error: E-00. Does this mean the heads need to be cleaned? Could it be something else?

Other tapes do work in the deck. I'm thinking that this problem tape may have been shot differently, in a way that this deck won't read (I'm the ae and not sure of the production specifics). Could this be the problem? The Panasonic manual says the the E-00 appears sometimes when a tape recorded by a system other than 525/60 is loaded.
    What is a 525/60 system?
Basically, this is an older deck - the tape plays fine on my Panasonic HD 1400 deck - could the camera that the tape was shot on affect its ability to play on the SD93?
    Thanks very much!

We just went through this problem and had to send the deck to Panasonic. The service tech. informed me that a head-cleaning tape just isn't enough, especially with continued use of the size DVC-Pro cassette that fits in the VariCam. Evidently, oxide or particles builds up on all the surfaces on the tape path - not just the heads. He literally uses a tooth-pick to clean some of the smaller areas, replaces the rubber roller, etc. to give the deck a thorough cleaning.

Keep a log of cleanings, because depending on your level of use - this maintenance may need to be done every three-six months. It doesn't help to just keep running the head-cleaning tape all the time because it just shortens the life of the heads without cleaning these other areas.

Our deck (AJ-HD1400p) has been working like a charm ever since it came back.

BTW - a local engineer had no idea how to clean this deck properly. His work was of no help, so I recommend sending it to Panasonic - and keeping tabs on them so your deck doesn't just sit on the bench for a week until they get to it.

high def...that may explain it..the headers that cue the tape transport look to be corrupted, even though they

    may not be in fact..

I think it means that the tape gets stuck and there is not enough traction, try a different tape first.

The problem is not that the tape had been shot differently, it is that the gears inside this particular tape are bad, so that the tape oppose more strenght than normal to the tractors, and after a while it gets stuck.

If video inside the tape is important, try using a different machine to copy it into a good tape, if not, just use a better tape.

Tape plays fine on your older deck because that is less sensitive to cassette that are hard to spin like this one.

I have seen this problem before, and it was due to a bad servo board.

My Panasonic AJD230 is spitting out some but not all, tapes

The capacitors are old and need replacing. And what I mean by caps is ALL the caps. These decks are known for failing capacitors - even if the deck hasn't logged much play/record time - time is not kind to them. Panasonic have ready made capacitor sets for the decks and even though you might be able to fix your transport problems by replacing only a portion of them, it's advised they all get done at once. That's between 10-20 hours for an experienced tech and it will cost you. What can you do?

I am trying to use a Panasonic AJ-D650, which hasn't been used for about 5 years. Initially the DVCpro tapes wouldn't load but they are now loading correctly. However if I press play or any other command...

most likely problem with the AJ-D650 is deteriorated electrolytic capacitors on the mechanism drive board. when these caps fail, the mechanism will not load completely, if at all. also check for bad capacitors in the signal path from the head drum. first and easiest step is to clean the heads; often a good cleaning will restore operation to a non-playing machine.

Digitized picture playing out from Panasonic AJ-D230H

There are several PCB's in the DVC:

Input TBC
Video IO
Audio
Mechanical \ IF
Digital Core
RF
AVSYSCON
backplane

all of these boards have lots of, electrolytic can, surface mount capacitors:
upon researching the MFG specifications of the caps used by Panasonic, i found that they have a lifetime use rating in hours at a given temperature..

3000 hours of use at 100 deg c

these caps dry up and the power supplys get noisy and the caps that are employed in time constant circuit applications function out of spec ( if at all )

For about 3 months have been refurbinshing units successfully by replacing all of these caps

panasonic makes all of thes caps available as a service part kit

however the pcb's are very deleicate

I am only successful because I have 15 years of electronics engineering ecperience..

there is a tool call a Capacitor ERS analyzer ( Equivalt Series Resistance )
a good cap will measure .25 to 2 ohms and anything above 5 ohms is stale

I am getting set up in a new building for serviceing 230's and 255's at first and then i'll expand
I use a electronics assembly house to do the replacment of alll of the cap that go stale.

I have put together caps lists and digikey part #'s and generated my own re-capping kit that is much cheaper that the kit offered bt panasonic.

AJ-D250 PANASONIC E-62 PROBLEM

E-62 error on AJ-D250 points to a cassette housing problem. either replace the cassette housing or have it rebuilt (replace gears on the sides that raise and lower the cassette). "replace belts" won't work - the AJ-D250 doesn't have any belts.

DVC recorder

The physical tapes are the same size, but the encoding on the tapes are different. Unless the panasonic recorder can play DVcam, you're out of luck.
