Ice forming in bottom of freezer

In the bottom of the freezer side, every other day we must chip out a 3/8 inch thick ice that forms...otherwise we have water running out of the freezer onto the floor. Other than that..everything seems to be the proper temp.

Re: Ice forming in bottom of freezer

Rita, your drain hole is frozen over and when your refer goes into defrost the water is running out into the cabinet instead of down the drain hole. Remove the evaporator cover and poor some boiling water in the evaporator drip pan. This should melt the ice and clear the drain back.

Sounds like the drainage hole is blocked with ice, i normally take the back cover off the freezer and at the bottom you will see a build up of ice at the bottom, turn freezer off and carefully remove as much ice as you can, then pour some boiling water over the excess ice and in the middle you will see a drain hole make sure water then freely flows down drain hole. Other than that you could try switching your freezer off for 24 hours to clear ice.

Neverending ice cystals buildup in freezer

Hi Rachel,

Opened 3-10 times per day, per week, per month?

There is only one possible source of these ice crystals -- moisture precipitating from the air (condensate) -- this air is coming from outside the freezer. It's either getting in when the freezer is opened or coming in around the gasket.

You might try a very thin coat of vaseline on the gasket to get a better seal.

GE Monogram refrigerator/freezer problem/ice dam in ice maker

I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

it is getting moisture from the refrigerator side.

check closely the door gasket of the refrigerator side, look for cracks and openings and see if it is not sealing properly.

another place to look at is the plastic trimmings around the refrigerator side between teh inner wall and the outside edges.

sometimes they have cracks and openings and moisture could seeped in and makes ice at the lower part of the freezer section.

tnx 4 using fixya,
