Access the BIOS settings and choose the offered 'Default' settings. It will at least get you running and then you can tweak on your own.

The BIOS settings aren't related to any disk; these are accessed before tthe system tries to boot.

Gaining access varies but some 'hotkeys' are fairly common; F1, Esc and sometimes combination keys are used.
    Accoding to this helpful page:

    Accessing the BIOS:

the correct key for your Compaq is F10 and I would start tapping it right as the system starts to boot.

As far as the possible defective disk #2, it very well could be bad. It took an original set of 8 and two new sets to get 8 usable disks from HP and they of course, own Compaq.
During that miserable job, Ifound this free utility very useful:

    Diskcheck by Emsa

It quickly helped me cull out the lousy disks with corrupt files on them (thanks HP-yech!)

The bios is a program in the computer chip and can be changed within set parameters as listed on the bios pages
if you want the latest bios applications you may have to get a new chip and as chips and motherboards are constantly changing you may need a new mother board for the latest chip

Forgot BIOS password for Acer Extensa 5420. need heeeeeeeeeelp

Every system must store the BIOS password information somewhere. If you are able to access the machine after it has been booted successfully, you may be able to view the BIOS password. You must know the memory address where the BIOS password is stored, and the format in which the BIOS password is stored. Or, you must have a program that knows these things.

You can write your own program to read the BIOS password from the CMOS memory on a PC by writing the address of the byte of CMOS memory that you wish to read in port 0×370, and then reading the contents of port 0×371.

!BIOS will recover the BIOS password for most common BIOS versions, including IBM, American Megatrends Inc, Award and Phoenix.

CmosPwd will recover the BIOS password for the following BIOS versions:

  • ACER/IBM BIOS
  • AMI BIOS
  • AMI WinBIOS 2.5
  • Award 4.5x/4.6x/6.0
  • Compaq (1992)
  • Compaq (New version)
  • IBM (PS/2, Activa, Thinkpad)
  • Packard Bell
  • Phoenix 1.00.09.AC0 (1994), a486 1.03, 1.04, 1.10 A03, 4.05 rev 1.02.943, 4.06 rev 1.13.1107
  • Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
  • Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6
  • Toshiba
  • Zenith AMI

I have laptop compaq presario v3000 i have set bios password and now i forgot my password so is there any way to break the password, i had disassembled and assembled full laptop than also it doesn`t...

!BIOS is a freeware utility which is designed to be a whole BIOS and security suite. It has the ability to decrypt the passwords used in some of the most common BIOS makes such as Award, Phoenix, American Megatrends, IMB etc..
It also has the ability to brute force the password (known as "blasters"). However, this method is dangerous and can result in some unexpected and unwanted results. Note: Because of this applications password cracking abilities, some antivirus software may report it as a virus/trojan. This is a false positive.
To start using !BIOS, reboot your computer and take note of the BIOS type and version you are running. For example, If your motherboard uses Award BIOS you should look for the text "Award Medallion BIOS 6.0′ or something similar.
Download !BIOS from here and save it to your desktop. Then, open a DOS command windows by going to Start > Run and type: cmd
Once you see a black screen in front of you, type: cd desktop
You should now see something like: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Desktop>
Now type the name of the file you just downloaded, if you haven't changed the name just type in: bios320.exe
bios320.thumbnail.jpg
Use the down arrow and choose "Crackers" and then press the right arrow. Using the up and down arrows, select the BIOS that the motherboard is using and press Enter.
You should now see a menu asking what you want to crack, in most cases its the Supervisor or System Passwords you want to crack, so press the 1 key on your keyboard. It will then show you another menu asking how you want it to be cracked. Option 1 is pretty good so try that first by pressing the 1 key on your keyboard. You should now have your BIOS password.
Reboot the computer, enter the BIOS and try it out.
