Access the BIOS settings and choose the offered 'Default' settings. It will at least get you running and then you can tweak on your own.

The BIOS settings aren't related to any disk; these are accessed before tthe system tries to boot.

Gaining access varies but some 'hotkeys' are fairly common; F1, Esc and sometimes combination keys are used.
    Accoding to this helpful page:

    Accessing the BIOS:

the correct key for your Compaq is F10 and I would start tapping it right as the system starts to boot.

As far as the possible defective disk #2, it very well could be bad. It took an original set of 8 and two new sets to get 8 usable disks from HP and they of course, own Compaq.
During that miserable job, Ifound this free utility very useful:

    Diskcheck by Emsa

It quickly helped me cull out the lousy disks with corrupt files on them (thanks HP-yech!)

also download language packs
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/language-packs
Most BIOS versions included a language option
Get the computer manufacturer and your computer model number.
If it is available, go to the manufacturer site and look for BIOS & Firmware upgrades.

Most BIOS versions included a language option
When your PC is starting up, press the Setup key.
This is usually Del, F2, or F12.
The key, however differs with each machine.
It should be stated on the screen for a very short time which key is the setup key
You can change the bios settings by using the ARROW KEYS select it press enter and exit then press the F10 key to save to cmos and restart
If your not sure or you have made any wrong bios changes you can set failsafe or optimised defaults
If you are unable to change the bios language settings the bios might need to be updated or bios chip might need to be changed or flashed
Before flashing the BIOS do a search on BIOS flash and read the caveats.
Backup your current BIOS and only flash if it is absolutely necessary!!
If the computer vendor is unknown or unavailable, try to identify the motherboard vendor and model number if you can, BIOS updates are specifically associated with motherboard versions:

Got a COMPAQ Armada E500 would not boot only 3 led's on, tried different power supply 90watt instead of 60 watt now no power at all can you help

Return the initial power supply if it was working. Then you have to check that the memory card and the hard disk are well fixed. You can do this by checking their details from the BIOS settings. If they are both OK i.e you can find their details in the bios, then you will have to boot from your operating system CD.If it is able to boot from this proceed with installation of the operating system. If you didn't find their details, then try and fix their connections tightly and repeat the process of checking the system information in the BIOS.

Monitor won't come on

Hi,

you need to remove the battery and after minute or so you can put it back...

the theory is that by that time the BIOS gets reset....
so that it will load with default settings....

if that one didn't work then do it again then,
remove the RAM from the board rub it with a soft cloth do not touch the pins with bare hand..

it should solve it

Monitor won't come on..just blinks..

Hi,

a common way to solve this is to put the BIOS into its defaults...
i.e, loading the BIOS with default settings..

to do this you need to open the case of your CPU then, on the motherboard there is a small battery called CMOS battery...
take it out and after a minute or so put it back...

in this one minute, the BIOS will get reset to its default settings...

you should now be able to work........

If this sol. helps please give a vote....

For your resolution to come up perfectly, update your graphics driver. Also if your monitor came with a disc. Install the software if any available on it.

Someone changed and removed my password

If you are talking about your bios password, you will have to either remove the bios battery, or remove the jumpers on the motherboard to reset it.
If it's your windows password, look in google for the password recovery tool. It's free, but it takes them about 4 days to email you your real password.

I got ahold of an old Compaq Armada M300 but it has no operating system. I tried installing Ubuntu and Xubuntu but it says that the bios age 1999 cuts off at 2000. I downloaded the BIOS update from compaq...

Hello,
Borrow a USB floppy drive, copy the update on a floppy disk. You will need a floppy to update the BIOS of the old computer anyway. Reviving a defunct machine with Linux is a worthile endeavor.

Hope it helps.

COMPAQ PRESARIO FX700

I'm having problems locating a manual. Compaq doesn't seem to support the model anymore. Reading a review online, It almost looks like Compaq had an Application control this instead of practical buttons on the front. Here's the review I read that talked about it -> http://www0.epinions.com/content_28050886276
Hope this helps a bit! Sorry I don't have much else, I've been digging for a few days now to find more.

Have you checked the computer bios?

In case an item was changed in the BIOS, such as the primary display device setting, use the following steps to reset the BIOS back to its default configuration:
  1. Turn on the computer and press the keyboard key that enters the BIOS Setup screen key when the keyboard light comes on. The key to enter the BIOS should be one of the following:
    • HP and Compaq desktop computers that came with Windows Vista, press F10 .
    • For HP Pavilions desktop computers that came with Windows XP or previous versions of Windows, press F1 .
    • Compaq Presario desktop computers built after 2002, press F1 .
    • Compaq Presario desktop computers built prior to 2002, press F10 .
  2. Wait 5 seconds.
  3. Press the F5 key to restore the default settings of the BIOS.
  4. Press Enter to accept the change and wait five seconds.
  5. Press the F10 and then the Enter key to save the changes and exit from the BIOS.
  6. The monitor should now display the first screens received from the computer (the logo screens). If not, find and download the latest BIOS update if one is available for your computer.
  7. If a BIOS update was not available or the monitor is still blank, continue to the next step

Reseating loose internal components

If the PC case was recently serviced or moved, a card, cable, memory module, or processor may have become loose. When this happens, the PC might make a beeping sound when turned on. Use the following steps to check for loose components: WARNING: The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer. CAUTION: This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
  1. Unplug all cables except for the power. Write down each cable location if you do not already know where it connects.
  2. With the power cable removed press the Power button on the front of the PC for 5 seconds.
  3. Remove the screw(s) that retain the panel or cover from the rear of the PC. c00371492.jpg
  4. Slide the side panel off from the rear of the PC. c00371493.gif
  5. Gently press down on the outside edges of cards and memory modules that are inserted into the motherboard to better seat them. Do not press too hard.
  6. Gently press down on the connectors of the flat ribbon cables to seat them.
  7. Replace the side panel and screw(s), reconnect the PC cables, and turn on the PC on.
  8. If the monitor still displays a black screen, the video hardware may be faulty and needs to be replaced or serviced. If the monitor displays the first startup screen but does not display Windows, continue to the next step.

Try this and if it doesnt work. please post again.
