If the netbook is running Windows 7 and the router is encrypted with WEP, then you can try changing the encryption to WPA or converting the WEP Key to HEX and entering the key in hex to the netbook

How do I obtain the WEP Code for this Router? I'm trying to hook up my Internet capable LCD TV

Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Click here if you cannot access the web-based configuration.

Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen.

di614_128wep.gif

Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key.

Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption.

  • 64-bit encryption 10 characters
  • 128-bit encryption 26 characters
  • 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only)

  • The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key).

Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings.

Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.

How do I enable encryption on my D-Link adapters?

Can't connect with i phone when wep security used

WEP "Security" has been completely and thoroughly hacked. It is pretty useless. WPA requires that you pick a good passphrase which is not dictionary based.
But my guess is that you have not entered the security key correctly. Stupid WEP should have included a checksum in the entered key. Make sure you use the hex key, and not the phrase that generates the hex key. I have had poor luck moving those and never encountered a problem with the hex key, unless I miscopied it.
    And switch to WPA security.

I am trying to connect wireless so that I can you

I"m not sure what you mean "EAP", but there is a WEP. It's the simplest code, but it will keep the casual or newbie out of your network.

Somewhere in your documentation, there should be a section on wireless security. WEP 64 bit uses a 10 character HEX password. In the simplest sense, you could set it to FACE123456, or 1011121314 as I do in my own cul-de-sac residence. The neighbor uses a phrase that means something to her but not me.

If you need something more elaborate, a Pre Shared Key (PSK) can be 8-63 characters and it's case sensitive. The problem is in most routers, if you forget it, you get to start all over as it's not displayed. In my Netgear, the WEP is visible and hex characters have no case.

There is Linux and Mac software that can sniff out the packets and break the security, but if you happen to monitor your traffic from time-to-time or change passwords, you can usually figure out if it's been compromised.

Printer will not accept the WEP encription code during setup wizard. We have double checked the code and it is correct

you may have been putting the passphrase and not the hexadecimal equivalent network key. you should be inputing hex chars (0-9, A-F).

For 64-bit WEP: 10 hex characters
For 128-bit WEP: 26 hex characters

    Hope this helps!

by entering it’s IP address into a browser. The default IP address is http://192.168.1.1. At the login, enter your username (admin) and password (admin).
Step 2 Click on “Wireless” on the left hand side then click on “WEP” at the top of the page.

    Type: Open
    System Mode: Hex WEP
    Key: 64-bit Key 1: 0000000000
Note: For WEP you can choose ASCII or HEX modes.
    64bit ASCII = 5 digit ASCII key.
64bit HEX = 10 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
    128bit ASCII = 13 digit ASCII key.
128bit HEX = 26 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
    You can also choose WPA

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is becoming the wireless security standard. It is a higher level of security than WEP that combines encryption and authentication to create an unbreakable level of protection. For small office and home users the WPA preshared key (WPA-PSK) is the easiest set up and does not involve a Certificate Authority Server, which is recommended for small and large business customers. Once the preshared key is set-up on each network device, every packet sent over the wireless network will receive its own encryption key under the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). A key benefit to WPA is that it is backward compatible with WEP-only devices. For those users looking to ensure those who share keys are who they claim to be a Certificate Authority Server or RADIUS Server can be added. This requires a more complicated set-up and is not recommended for smaller networks. Also, one thing to note is that WPA adds to the packet size, typical transmissions will take longer.'); return false">WPA
