when i looked on my computer the lines still there. i tried few things, like pushing buttons into default mode but nothing happens. could it be because sometimes i forgot to remove the batteries after taking pics? so may be this.. has been damaging the lens ?

i printed ones and the lines were printed also, the lines were more visible, especially on the monochromatic background or background with less objects.

The lines may be on the screen, try looking at the pics on your computer or print one, see if the lines are still there

When i power up camera, LCD sreen is almost white. I'm unable to see images clearly to take pic but pics are clear when I save to my computer

CCD (Charge Coupled Device): one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras. Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card. A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image).

If seen on both your pc monitor as well as the camera's LCD then it's likely a CCD issue and it's no wonder that it will be more expensive than buying a new digicam. This is why you need to be exceptionally careful when taking care of your camera since most are uber sensitive to being damaged by the slightest miss-handling.

When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details: Bad CCDs

Hope helps.

I have a canon EOS Rebel DS6041 and need to know what batteries I need If you could help please

Here's a page from an excellent forum "Steve's Digicams"

As it explains, it basically a Canon EOS Rebel 300D and so uses the same accessories.

Here's a url for the Manual :-

Here's a site for accessories:-

Said site mentions you want a Canon BP-511 or BP-514.

You can find them almost anywhere, Canon site/shops, ebay, amazon etc.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the information.

A failed sensor is a terminal failure and very common on older digicams. Your model was designed to last about five to six years, and should be about seven years old this year, so the failure cannot be described as being premature.

Repair is simply not cost effective: it has to be done professionally and the cost of the part alone will now exceed the residual value of your camera. There was an issue in the past with premature failure of the Sony manufactured 5MP sensor which was used by many manufacturers including Canon and there was a quiet program to offer free repairs to those customers who complained, even up to five years outside of the original warranty. Your camera has the 4MP sensor though so is nothing to do with that, but I have heard that in the USA at least Canon *might* have extended the offer to cover any sensor failures on their models. So if you live Stateside there's no harm in asking.

If you cannot get a free repair then the only option is to recycle and replace your model.

Sensor failure is now a well-understood process and manufacturing techniques have improved, but it still occurs regularly although far more rarely than in the past. It's a point to consider when replacing your digicam: even a top of the line umpty-thousand dollar pro-spec Nikon dSLR only has a two year manufacturer warranty and that's currently the best you can get. For the same price you can buy a brand new car with a seven year warranty and it's far more complex than any digicam.

Digicams simply aren't built to last.

I have a similar camera - there should be a slider button that lets you toggle between taking pics and viewing your pics. It is to the right of the screen (on back) and just under the selector knob on the top. When slid up (camera icon) you take pictures. When slid down (square with arrow icon) you view pics.
