Question about Protron PLTV3250 32 in. LCD Television

Open Question

Protron PLTV32M Can not connect hdmi to Laptop

I connected my hdmi male to male cable from my Protron PLTV32M and can not get my Laptop to recognize the LCD TV. I checked the cable by connecting the LCD TV to my XBOX360. The XBOX360 works fine with it gives video and audio. I have a Radeon 5400 graphics card in my laptop. It is an onboard video adapter. When I connect a vga cable and put the Protron PLTV32M into vga mode it is recognized by the laptop with no problem. Just can not get it to detect the LCD when I put it in dvi mode. The connection in the back is definitely hdmi even though the OSD screen says DVI as the mode. Checked everywhere but can not find an answer. Please help, I miss my HDMI.

What type of laptop do you have?(model)

  • Mitchell Juergens Feb 17, 2012

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavilion Dv7 Notebook.

I forgot to mention that last year I dropped the laptop and damaged the DVD Drive. So the problem might be related to that. I am very proficient at working on the inside of laptops I have taken them apart before and have fixed problems. I just want to resolve anything that might be software related or anything I might have missed before opening the laptop and working inside it.

Hold down the FN key(function) and tap F4 until it switches to hdmi.

Tried that it does not show an option for hdmi. This only seems to work when I have the external vga cable connected between the latptop and my LCD TV.
    Any other suggestions.

Ok So I decided today I would take my laptop to Staples since I bought it there. I brought my brand new HDMI male to male cable with me. Told the salesperson I wanted to see whether my laptops HDMI was working and wanted to test my laptop with there LCD Monitor. Connected my laptop using HDMI cable to the HDMI port on there LCD Monitor and it instantly connected. After this I brought my laptop back to my home and connected it to my Protron PLTV-32M and switched the input source to DVI and nothing but a blue screen. Remember earlier in my post I said I successfully connected an XBOX360 using the same HDMI cable to the Protron PLTV-32. So any suggestions would be helpful.

SOURCE: Problem with DVI Port

You might be running into a problem if you haven't changed the video settings on the PS3 to send digital video. Try that first.

SOURCE: I'm connect my PS3 TO

Temporarily hook the Playstation up to another television and change the resolution in the display settings to 1080i and try again. If that does not work, try lowering the resolution again to 720p. If this set has component video input (Red, Green, Blue video cables) try that as well if possible. In fact, this may be the only way to hook this up and have it work in high definition because this set may not be HDCP compliant. You will have to check the owner's manual for its specifications. If all else fails you will have to use the composite (yellow) video cable to hook it up. It won't look pretty, but it should work. Good luck.

Have wireless internet need to connect tv to hp laptop

If its portability and convenience you're wanting to achieve you can connect your tv to your laptop via a hdmi or vga pc to tv device such as the one below.

You will need a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse because u will no longer need to physically access your laptop. Make sure your tv input selection is correct. For example, hdmi 1, computer, vga, and etc.

Using with a laptop

Connection the monitor depends on the connections you have out of your Toshiba laptop.

The monitor has both VGA and DVI.

If the Toshiba has a VGA out, all you need is a VGA cable available online, computer or electronics store.

If the Toshiba has an HDMI out, you can connect it to the DVI on the monitor with an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI Adapter.

You can also use USB out with either a VGA converter or a DVI converter (go with DVI for the better picture). Converters can be found online at Amazon, you may also need a standard male to male DVI cable to use with the converter.

Laptop to T.V. connectivity

This is my first time using this site, but I will try my best to assist you.
From what I understand, you want to connect your laptop display to your T.V. In turn using your T.V. as a "monitor".
So you were wondering if you could use a S400 to HDMI cable to accomplish this. Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible with that cable. To my best knowledge, S400 ports are only capable of transferring DATA between devices, not VIDEO. A VGA or HDMI cable will accomplish what you want. I don't think your laptop has a HDMI port, so I recommend buying a male-to-male VGA cable.
I looked up your T.V. and it looks it should have a VGA input port. This is what I did for my laptop and 32 inch LCD T.V. when i accidently cracked my laptop's screen.
It may not be High Definition, but you should be able to get fairly decent resolution. Make sure your T.V. is on the "Computer" input channel. (Or equivalent)
I don't recommend buying a VGA to HDMI cable converter as it usually doesn't result in improved quality.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

You can use either an HDMI cable or a VGA cable to connect your computer to your TV. Your computer has both HDMI and VGA ports. You can use either ports but you cannot use both or else your video card will crash.

as far as I knew, that laptop didn't have hdmi out. if it does, you should be able to use ANY hdmi although you made need a specific cable with either a full size male hdmi on both ends or an hdmi with a full size male on one end and a mini male on the other. if it doesn't have an hdmi out port though, you will need something like a VGA to hdmi or DVI converter box (depending on what you are connecting the laptop to). a simple cable with VGA on one end and a hdmi on the other wont work either as it wont convert the signal properly. you need an electronic box(could cost more than $50) to convert the signal similar to this for an example...

hope this helps

What kind of connector do I use to connect a dell laptop to a Hitachi 42'' plasma display? HDMI to DVI or HDMI to VGA?

If the TV has a VGA connector then use a VGA to VGA cable from your laptop as most laptops have a VGA output. Otherwise use one of the other combinations that work HDMI to DVI or HDMI to HDMI..
