Question about Gateway E4300 (E43001008508) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Need pinout for Gateway E4300 motherboard. Front panel pins and audio pins need homes.

I'm re-using the motherboard from my old Gateway E4300 in a new case. I haven't been able to find any pinouts for the PWR, PWR LED, HDD LED, etc. or the audio pins (L-OUT, R-OUT, MIC-IN, L-RET, etc.) Could someone provide me with this information?

There is a diagram that mentions which pin numbers for the PWR, RESET, etc, but it doesn't say which pin is number one, and it describes pins 1-8, but there are nine physical pins. It doesn't show anything for the audio pins. Thanks for trying to help though.

The connections are usually printed on the motherboard near the pins.
Power, HD, etc near the front of the case, audio usually near the back low down on the board.

Gateway 500GR Mother board Connector S Wiring

You are correct so far.

This is a perfect example of using deductive reasoning based on intelligent thought.

'Armed' with that I can see you will go far in life.

Gateway Support > Gateway 500GR Desktop PC > Main Support page,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/3724/3724nv.shtml

Click on Components in the list.
Scroll down. Under the bold black heading - Motherboards - click on
102007 - Intel (Augsburg) No CPU Motherboard R0

Click on Specifications.
Chipset: Intel 915G Chipset

http://www.ascendtech.us/gateway-augsburg-intel-915g-motherboard_i_mb4gwaugsburg.aspx

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

In the photo the Front Panel header is marked by the letter S.

Let's go to Intel Support, and download the Product Guide for an Intel D915GAV motherboard,

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-012048.htm

Click on the blue -
Intel Desktop Board D915GAV Product Guide - (English) PDF
Scroll your mouse cursor to the bottom/middle of the page, to bring the 'ghosted out' navigation guide into view.

Click on the Adobe PDF icon to the far right.
(When you hover your mouse cursor over it, "Show Adobe Reader toolbar" is briefly shown)

Different design motherboard in the layout of certain headers, and connectors, but same Ol' Front Panel header pinout, Intel uses for 10 pin Front Panel header's.
Whether it is an Intel O.E.M. motherboard, or one they made for a pre-built computer manufacturer.

Front Panel header for Gateway 500GR, is next to the bottom edge of the motherboard, and all the way towards the right.
5 pins across the Top row, 4 pins across the bottom row.

Pins on the Top row are numbered ODD.
Pins on the Bottom row are numbered EVEN.

TOP row; Starting on the RIGHT side going towards the Left;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

BOTTOM row; Starting on the Right side going towards the Left;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light Emitting Diode)

Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire. If the HDD LED is dim when the Harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is N/C. No Connection. Pin reserved for the factory.
(5 Volts DC)

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED.
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) Again, there is No pin 10.

Need IBM motherboard 29R8260 front panel controls

John,

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What you need is a Front panel header pinout.

This I do not have. What I do have, is a simplistic method that may allow you to find out, what the pinout is.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-ThinkCentre-M51-29R8260-Socket-775-Motherboard-w-P4-3GHz-SL7PU-/390456414497?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D15%26pmod%3D260995444535%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1437936870868306373&_qi=RTM1062688

Looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the ThinkCentre M51, (It also uses this mobo), the Front Panel header is to the right of the Ram Memory slots. (Processor to the left, Ram Memory slots at the Top)

Looking at the Ebay link, there are three views available. Click on the middle view. In the view photo the Front Panel header is the black rectangle below the Yellow ram memory slots.

Two rows of pins.
Power Supply plugged into power, use an LED light with two wires.
Go across the top row, and touch the first set of two pins next to each other.

No? Go on. Touch the next set of two pins. I'm willing to bet the third set of two pins is the Power On switch pins.
(Could be mistaken, however)

The contact made should be brief. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.
Once the Power Supply comes on, wait a minute, then start testing the other pins.

LED light blinks? You have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.
LED light stays steady? You have the Power On LED pins.

Be aware however, that there may be 3 pins for the Power On LED.
Two Positive ( + ) pins, and one Negative ( - ) pin. This is for a dual color Power On LED. (Turbo mode/ Regular mode)
This would mean touching the first pin, or second pin, in the set of 3 pins, and the last pin in the set.

Computer restarts? You have the 2 pins for a Reset Switch.
(Do NOT touch the Power On switch pins again, or the computer may restart)

Not what I would like to state. Would like to state the exact pinout.
Perhaps if you get this figured out, you might take the time to post the pinout. Crude is fine, I can 'clean it up'. This way 100's to 1000's of people may be able to use your findings. Think how many people you would help.

Gm5472 power button is broken need to replace or bypass

The Power On switch is located inside the plastic Power On button assembly.
It is an ATX power on switch.
This switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/s/PC/R/1009566/1009566nv.shtml

Click on - Components - in the list.
Go down to the heading - Cases and Case Hardware
Click on - 8016038R - USB Ports/Power Switch Assembly for Gateway 5-Bay uATX Case

Click On Product Views, then Main View.

From a quick search on the internet,

1) http://www.skyline-eng.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=6400

2) http://www.bigestock.com/searchres.php?partno=8016038R

While you're waiting for the assembly to arrive, or if you want to just get the computer up, and running again, I suggest this;

http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html

If you do not wish to wait, you may want to check local 'Mom and Pop' computer stores.
('Mom and Pop' computer store. The small shops run by those who enjoy computers, and are not looking to make a 'killing' in profits)

This is the motherboard in your Gateway GM5472 Desktop PC,

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006203R/4006203Rnv.shtml

The plastic front of your computer is the Front Panel.

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the cables (Wires) from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

The Front Panel header is right next to the four Orange SATA connectors on the motherboard.

This is the Front Panel header pinout,

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006203R/4006203Rmvr15.shtml

The pins are numbered. (Look close, and you will see a 2, under the left side of the black connector base)

Pin numbering starting from the Bottom, and going Up on the Right side,
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Pin numbering starting from the Bottom, and going Up on the Left side,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED light is dim when operating, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is for 5 Volt power. Not Connected to my knowledge.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED light.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) There is no Pin 10, therefore N/C. Not Connected.

I need a diagram that shows the pinout for front panel audio.

Could you be less specific as to what motherboard and front-panel, and why you couldn't download the manual from the maker if you pitched it out?

Then, to be sure, get a DVM with small probes, set it on continuity, and confirm the pinout.
