My hp will not turn on after powering it down. However, their is a green light on in the back of the tower.

the green light is from the power supply .and only indicates the presence of power...if it does not start you must check the reasons ..look first for cables being unplugged from the motherboard or so .. If nothing is being displayed on the front led it means it has no power for some reasons..and it is actually a good news..If the led is amber in color ..than it is something wrong with the board...
I think in your case it may be just the front panel buttons cord being unplugged from the main board..if you have done something insiude it maybe the cause..Or it may be the main power supply to blame ...even if it indicates it has power ..something may be wrong with it ..and not transforming the current like it should..
I repeat... the lack of any sign of power on the main board is a good news for now ..if you eliminate all other causes related with the power supply and the front panel and other cable that powers the board...than you have to see if it is not the main board to blame ...I suggest to strip it down to the minimum ..(leave just some ram memory and the cpu on it ..and try to boot without any cards or hard disk or other..and see if you get anything on screen with the on board graphic..if you manage to start it ..and than build your way back by one ..and diagnose them ..
Also check the cmos jumpers..and the battery ones in special ..If for some reasons they are will play dead..for the lack of power..Just download the main manual from the hp ..and in there you have the board ..and follow the setting for the jumpers..(or better ..look for the manual for the mother board by name ..what you need is teh maps for all teh plugs ..front panel ... cards..etc..this way if you strip it you can follow the indications to build it back )

This is fault within the main mother board, can be related to the power supply or the processor secttion but is sure a lowering of value in capacitors.
If you are able to open the monitor and use a Hair dryer, the spot will be identified immediately as a heating in sections of the power or the board will switch on the monitor and thus confirm the area which can be pinpointed with a closer heating.
replace the suspected capacitors with the correct value , insert into the PCB with the correct polarity.

I have no power to usb ports

you may check whether those ports are connected to the main board. There are some jumper style outlet on the main board for USB ports but may not be connected. Check the print on the main board or the manual you will see them.

I have an issue with a computer. one day it stopped turning on all of a sudden. checked PSU and its not getting any power. (usually fan will turn a bit then stop), now decided a faulty PSU is the problem...

Good day.
You are down with your motherboard as the main suspect of the problem. To isolate it, remove all the devices (hard disk, optical drive, video card, memory) that is connected to your board. Turn-on your PC. If your PSU is still acting abnormal then your motherboard is defected and you need to buy a new one, else, you can replaced one at a time the devices you have removed earlier.
Feel free to post again here at Fixya if you still have a problem.
Good luck.

Start button on computer flashes yellow & computer does not start. Happens on & off. When using computer all power can click off & power button goes from green to flashing yellow..

I would suspect (almost always) a bad power supply. You should be easily able to find a new one for under $25, just make sure that it has the same types of connectors as your original (extra connectors are OK). If it's not the power supply, the motherboard (main circuit board) is almost certainly shot.

I have a compaq preserio SR1900NX. It only boots sometimes. Also when it is powered off the light on the front panel remains on. Other times the power supply light goes off. So many symptoms at one time....

Hmm, tricky one your right however I would start by checking my power supply. Your local repair shop should have a power supply they use for testing problems like this. If it turns out not to be the power supply then I would be looking at the main board or a component on the main board such as ram or possibly cpu as being the culprit. Also try clearing your cmos and then restarting see if that helps any.
Good Luck!
