SOURCE: bobbin filling on Singer 626

The Singer 626 has a self-winding bobbin. You place the empty bobbin in the bobbin thingie (sorry for being so untechnical). On the left of the bobbin you will see a "lever" with a circular top on it (I think it is red-ish) Again, sorry for being so untechnical. Press the "lever" down. Thread your machine, thread the needle, wrap the excess thread from the needle around the knob that tightens the needle and holds it in place and press your foot down on the foot pedal. The bobbin will automatically wind as you hold the foot pedal down. Do not wind the thread onto the bobbin past the outer white line.

Recently had same problem. Underneath the bobbin area on the bottom of the machine is a small white plastic piece that resembles a fan. Singer calls this the bobbin cam actuator. It is usually cracked along the sleeve that fits over the metal pin, bar? This is the mechanism that lifts the bobbin when it is wound. When its broken it can't lift the bobbin to be wound properly.

SOURCE: how to thread the bobbin on a singer simple sewing machine

Drop-in bobbin: Note: thread must change direction when entering bobbin shuttle notch. Usually bobbin will turn counter-clockwise when threaded properly.

1. hold bobbin so that the tail of thread is facing to left.
2. drop bobbin into bobbin shuttle.
3. pull thread toward you.
4. guide thread into notch and pull to left so that slot engages thread.
5. pull thread diagonally across shuttle toward back of machine.
6. draw bobbin thread up through needle plate with threaded needle.

Model 9117. Why won't it sew?

Remove all the thread. Raise the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disk. Confirm with the manual that the needle is inserted facing the correct way and verify that everything is threaded correctly. Somewhere I read to use only Singer needles in Singer machine--don't know if that's true, but...

Also appears that this machine takes a special bobbin:

There could be a knick or burr somewhere that is catching the thread. You can test it by lightly rubbing an old pair of pantyhose on areas (under the needle plate) and see if it catches anywhere. If the knick is not bad, you can try to smooth it with a fine emery board. Otherwise, could require a replacement part.

If you can, observe the stitching mechanism while you hand-rotate the handwheel and see if you can tell where the thread is hanging up. Hopefully you will be able to see where the machine is failing to operate.

I have a Singer 9117. The lower thread keeps bunching. I have tried taking the bobbin case out and putting it back in. I have also tried rethreading the machine. Do you know what else I can do?

Hi, I have the very same problem with my 9117DV. Which I paid 300.00 for 2 years ago. It sews great when it works but for some reason it will bunch up and jam right in the middle of my sewing project.
I have the exact same machine in an older model and I have never had this problem.(which prompted me to get another).
The only solution I have to offer is take it to an authorized Singer dealer or sell in on eBay which is what I am doing!!!
