Question about Canon PIXMA MP970 InkJet Printer

Open Question

Canon PIXMA MP970 PGBK does not print

Tried cleaning, deep cleaning, and print head alignment. With auto alignment, get message "Auto head align has failed". Manual head alignment never prints the black. Removed print head and cleaned with 50/50 ammonia and water then performed deep cleaning a number of times along with print head alignment but still no PGBK. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated?

SOURCE: Alignment of printhead on Canon Pixma iP4600

This is simply a case of the ink tanks not being pressed in hard enough. They do click in, as the manual instructs but, unless they are fully pressed in top and bottom, this problem occurs. It's a shame that the Canon manuals and even the support centre do not mention this simple solution.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

Why wont the head alignment work?

If the inks will not come out the alignment fails. Have you tried a deep clean? If that does not solve your problem
You can try and soak the head in one oz. ammonia and 8 oz. of hot water. Preferably distilled or spring water. Make sure it covers the nozzles and ink intake ports. Let it soak for 30-45 minutes.
Completely dry the head and contacts being careful of the nozzles
.Maybe let it sit for an extra few minutes
Do a deep clean after installed and if it now does a nozzle check be sure to put paper in the top tray and do an alignment.
If this does not work you may need a print head which I can supply.
Thankls for using Fix-Ya

The pgbk on the Nozzle Check Pattern doesn't print at all. also the Auto Head Align failed

It means you either need a new printhead, QY6-0061-000, or the purge assembly is worn out and not cleaning or priming the black properly. You can change the printhead but the purge assembly is a shop repair.

Canon MP970 how to remove print head to clear small pieces of stuck paper?

Make sure the unit is powered off before continuing.

On the right hand side of the print head holder - just to the right of the print cartridges is a lever. If you raise this lever the print head can be removed. When you have cleaned off the debris carefully replace the head and then lock the lever in position. Then run nozzle check, cleaning cycle then a head alignment process before printing again.

Horizontal lines through my printed photos

Are you sure your ink is not on the verge of finishing? Try changing the colour ink and print again. Sometimes I take the cartridge out, shake the ink down just in the same flashing motion as I do my pen, then replace it. You may try that.

Bottom half of pgbk band doesn't print

First try doing a deep head cleaning or two; if that doesn't work, try removing the printhead and looking at the bottom of it to make sure there is nothing blocking the small ejection holes on printhead, reinstall the printhead, do the alignment again an that should do it, if not you may need a new printhead.
