I CANT GET MY LAPTOP TO WORK WITHOUT THE ETHERNET CABLE IN?

Hi,

When was the last time using your internet connection wirelessly? If this is the first time you will use your wireless internet. You may need to check it with your internet service provider or you may check it with your wireless modem (router) manufacturer.

Using wireless internet connection, you will need to configure the settings in the wireless modem (router). you will need to get an admin password and username.

If you were able to connect to the internet wirelessly, check if you wireless icon (WIFI) on your laptop is on.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

I have a new laptop which has built in wireless but I cant get it to connect to my house internet. I entered a wrong passcode and now cannot work out how to reset it so i can start again

Vista or XP? XP is the easiest. Click on the Wireless icon in the lower right. click on advance settings>wireless networks and remove all the preferred networks or just the one you wanted to sign in to in that box. VIOLA! start again.
VISTA a little harder. right click on the wireless icon. click networks and settings. in the left side bar click manage networks. Find your network device and right click properties. Security tab to change the password settings.

I need to block my neighbors from using my wireless connection with my belkin 54g

you need to get in the router home page and click on the wireles lan icon & click on configure

you set up a network id for the laptop you call call your network id anything ,a name with numbers or letters with number
and a security wpa key not a wep key dont use that one use wpa key then click apply at the bottom when you have set up your network id and security wpa key

then you put a wireless usb adapter on the laptop you install the network drivers on the laptop for the wireless usb
then you click on the network icon in the taskbar by the time on the laptop right click on it go to properties then you click on view wireless networks then you click on advanced tab you put in the network id and security key that u set up on the router home back then you click apply & ok then you click on view wireless network's your see your network id click on that then click on conncet

if you have a wireless card in the laptop just

click on the network icon in the taskbar by the time on the laptop right click on it go to properties then you click on view wireless networks then you click on advanced tab you put in the network id and security key that u set up on the router home back then you click apply & ok then you click on view wireless network's your see your network id click on that then click on conncet

if your network cuts out at any time just right click the network icon by the pc time
and click on repair that is on the 2 computers you can do this then windows xp will repair the
network for you and it dont take long at all
if you cant set that up
your be better off if you get you (isp)server to help you set all that up

I have aspire 9301awsm cant go wireless what am i doing wrong im not very good with computers just starting to learn

hmm a very open problem, could be here for days without detail :)

the most basic and common problems are:
(try these starting from the top)
* The firewall is incorrectly set, causing the firewall to reject the wireless infomation sent to the computer, reconfigure/reinstall a firewall

*you are too far away from the router if it keeps disconnecting, try moving closer.

*make sure the connection settings are set to automatic, right cick the wireless icon on the startbar, select status, select properties, scroll to internet protocol, then select properties. all the settings on this screen should be set to:
"Obtain ______________ Automatically"

* if the laptop name claims to have came with wireless built in, try checking the uniqe specification to that specific laptop, as my Acer Travelmate 2300 claims to have wireless built in, but i do not have it.

If none of these work id be happy to create another list :)

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Want to use wireless without running cables

Did you load the DLink software onto your computer? If so you have to configure the DLink control Panel to recognize the Internal wireless card in the computer. You may also need to take the wireless card out and restart your computer, then shut it back down and reinstall the card so the computer can recognize the card and reinstall the drivers. If it cant find suitable drivers it wont install. While you have the card out look at the brand and version number and try to download software to desktop to install in case windows cant find any.If you have a cat5 (ethernet) cable you can go hard wired till you get the wireless working.
