Question about Garden
Have no spark with grounds hooked to magnito. bit when i unhook them i got spark
If you disconnected the ground wires and get spark the coil good. If no spark its bad. So go upstream. A seat switch or etc. is not making. Hope this helps.

I also have a Craftsman tractor with the same problem. Sears repairman said it needed a new transmission and it would cost $1,400 to install. A new one is about $1,000. Anyway, if you remove the battery and the battery tray under the seat it will expose the transmission fill hole (hex). I opened the top and it looked empty. I had a bottle of 90 weight gear oil in my shop and filled the transmission to the top. I have not had any problems with it since. $4.00 bottle of oil verses a new tractor is worth a try.

terry, check for kill line on motor to see if grounded out,you can remove from ground clip.
also you say you checked points??????
check for flywheel to coil pickup clearance .
point type coil to flywheel the airgap should be 25- 1000ths with feeler guage. on electronic ignition coil to flywheel pickup the air gap should be set @ 10-1000ths with feeler guage. hope this solves your problem..........lemmee kno.....chris

Had the same problem. Removed carb, carefully, noting where everything goes and taking some pics, completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. Reassembled and worked like a champ. Reason for this? Gas goes bad and gunks up the carb. Good luck
