Re: broken nc10 charger
Depending on what type of plug it is you may be able to change the fuse. If the fuse has blown then you really need to know why before plugging it back in to the mains. The charger may have a broken wire in the lead that plugs in to the laptop. Usually it happens right near the plug where it gets bent and twisted. It could also be the internal fuse inside the charger box.
If you can't get it tested properly then a new one is your best bet. They are quite cheap on Ebay. Just look for the one for your make and model number and check to make sure the voltage on your chargers label is the same, it's output voltage is probably 19 volts. The voltage must be the same, NOT lower or higher. Then have a look at the label for the current which is in Amps, something like 3.15Amps. You can buy one with higher current than the one you have but NOT lower than the label says.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You could have a broken power socket where the charger plugs in to the laptop. If the battery is flat and the socket is broken or loose then it wont charge and will be completely dead. If the socket is ok then it should power up with just the charger plugged in, even without the battery plugged in. You could also have a broken wire in the plug on the charger, the end that plugs in to the laptop.
Check that the cigarette lighter socket is working. If not it may be a fuse blown in the fuse-board.
In the charger plug, that goes into the cigarette lighter there is a fuse which may be blown. At the tip of the plug you'll see a ring. On most chargers it's silver but some are black. Unscrew the ring and the plug will come apart. Take care not to lose the small metal tip when you open it. Replace the fuse. If there's power going to the charger and this fuse is replaced your problem should be solved.
this is just a wild guess but i think that is you ac conector that is fry there is not fuses for that so the only option is to take it to a local repair guy an get it replace. depending where you are may run from $50 to $150
the repair since they have to take apart the laptop to change it the part is no more than $ 15 but labor is the costly here so maybe the docking station will be the best in your case .
Based on your description of the problem, it seems tome that you have a broken power socket (the one you plug the charger into in the laptop). The socket might be either broken, or its connection with the laptop's motherboard is bad. The laptop needs to be disassembled in order to replace or resolder the power socket.
mine too. Its brand new. Worked OK in my car for a couple of small trips, and unfortunately I didn't notice the lights status on the charger. Then lost satellite reception (not being charged at the time). Now red light on car charger and kept turning off/won't turn on. I have an old mains charger from garmin 660 which has a malfunctioning antenna and this 1490 was meant to replace ! Its charging now anddoes turn on, but no answer yet I'm afraid. I intend to register it with garmin and log a call with them. Also looking at the manual, it says there is a fuse in the head of the charger which should be checked. I haven't done this yet, but not sure if red light would be on if fuse had blown ?
Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.
