Laptop fails to start up sopping after 5-10 seconds. Have tried mains only start battery only start. Have managed to get a normal start after spending a few hours restarting button pressing. Have tried reseating ram also and repeating removal of battery. It will restart again if I do not shut down completely but if I shut down it will not start again. Once in I did system restore downloaded windows and mcaffe security and went into power management to stop it hibernating or going into standby mode. Still have the problem

I have the same problem I think. I dismount Key board ,that I can press on the mother board. then I switch on notebook. the lights is on and the fan starting turning. I was looking very carefuli After 5 second fan stoped and at the same time the monitor showes booting, this is normal and it is OK. If at that time of fan stoped the monitor don't showes anything, then the problem appear. then I press the power button few second to stop and I press by hand motherboards. Then I 'm able to start notebook without the problem. ,bat after sam hours the monitor is freezing. this is the same problem. So I dismount motherboard completly . I take it Out disconnect DDR, CD,HD,KEYBOARD MOUSE, BATTERY, ATI GRAFIC CARD... EVERYTHING, You have to dismount fan with copper heating system , becouse that You can tuch with fingrt CPU unit to chech the CPU tempereture. You can test Your motherboard. I tell you the steps.
    1. PLUG THE MAIN POWER WITHOUT BATERY TO THE MOTHERBOARD
    2. AT THE SAME TIME TUCH BY FINGER CPU UNIT AND TURN ON THE BOARD
    3. IF THE BOARD IS OK THEN YOU FILL VERY HIGHT TEMPERATURE OF CPU AFTER 3 SECOND AND BE CAREFULY THEN YOU HAVE TO QWICKLY UNPLAG MAIN POWER TO PROTECT THE CPU
    4. IF YOU CAN LIVE YOUR FINGER ON CPU UNIT SOME MORE SECONDS , THAT IT IS MEAN THET THE BOARD IS DAMAGED, BECAUSE PROCESSOR ARE NOT WORS PROPELLY.
5 THEN UNPLUG AND TYIED TO TWIST THE BOARD A LITTLE AT THE ADGE OF THE CORNER AND REPEAT THE STEPS FROM 1 TO 5 STEPS

I STILL DIDN'T FIND THE BAD CONTACT ON THE BOARD. I'm shure that is just bad contact on the board. A lot of this type of board has the same simptom. If anyone find the solution please tell it to us.

SOURCE: Black Screen / Computer Stays in Standby Mode

Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up. You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.

There is a very good chance that your cpu got too hot and, has died. replace the cpu. you should be able to remove it with only a blade screwdriver.

SOURCE: compaq 6735s notebook pc goes to HP screen, but wont boot

Hi,

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop.
Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops

Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery
Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional
Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure
Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional
Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional
Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure
Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure

Plz get back so I can suggest you the steps to resolve the issue.

Check on the ram, power adapter cable, battery and if that is not the case try to see if you can repair windows xp. Otherwise it could be that the motherboard is damage

Laptop HP COMPAQ NX7010. Dead, with lights on..

Sometimes removing the cmos battery for 5 minutes isnt enough, with all the parts assembled in the original configuration, remove the running battery, the cmos battery and any external power supply. Let it sit for about a day. Let my know if the problem is unresolved after that.

Nx7010 does not start.

Hello dear, probably some BIOS values changed, causing u no displays. Try this key combination immediately after startup

esc - loads bios, but not in display
F9 - (hope its F9 in ur laptop) resets BIOS
F10 - saves BIOS to default values and exits
RESTART

Or else try removing CMOS battery, its right beneath the keyboard. (Just remove 1 screw) Remove and hold for 1 minute and then reinsert and turn up laptop on. Your PC should be fine.

Hi,

The HDD light is not meant to be on solid, it comes on only when the hard drive is actually working. The situation you're describing is usually just a lockup in standby.

Although you're onthe right track with the battery, To reset the power, unplug the AC cord, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 seconds. Now put the battery back plug it in and turn it on. It may give you an error about not being able to resume, this is normal.

If this doesn't work get back to us with more info: does it beep when it turns on, how many times, longs/shorts.

Did you try plugging and external monitor into the laptop and rotating displays to see if your backlight is out?

Ok, giver a try and let us know.

Cannot turn on

Ok - was there lightning recently? Does the laptop spin up, but no display? Doesn't it start up at all? Did you try it with the charger plugged in? Is there a battery you can change and try it with that?
If there is no display, try toggling te fn + f4 button, or the f(key with the little screen on it looks something like: |square|)

otherwise try using an external screen? Hope this solves your problem. If the laptop doesn't power up at all, even with a new battery/while plugged in, my best bet would be motherboard damage, in which case it needs to be replaced.

May be there is a problem with your ram or your hard disk is not plugged in properly.Remove your hard drive clean the ports and place it back the way it was similarly do the same for the ram and see if that solves the problem or your ram is dead.Try a new one.
