IXUS 500 Screen Not Displaying Picture

Hi. My IXUS 500 has stopped displaying what I am viewing. I still see the small icons on the screen and the Canon logo when I turn it on but nothing else. I tried taking pictures but all the photos are black. Is there something I can do to fix it? Is it worth repairing? In my estimation I have taken nearly 15,000 photos with it. Thanks, Altaf

My IXUS 500 does not any display in the screen, only the icons. I have tried many thing (changing batteries, on/off, etc) but nothing seems to work. Is this the same problem the S500 has??

Mine just started having the same problem. My display is not working starting yesterday. I have never dropped it had any type of liquid on it. Anyone figure out the problem on this? I really love my camera but now I am just umph~

If the menus and icons look normal, but images are distorted or discolored, you may have an image sensor (CCD) problem. See Canon's service notice regarding this issue here. Canon will repair your camera at no cost regardless of warranty. Contact them at your regional Canon service agency.

Ah yes! you have pressed the display button. Turn the camera on and you see the icons in the display, look for the Disp button and press it, the display will cycle through its modes icons, black, image and icons.

The camera, in camera mode, periodically displays a muddled picture on the screen. If I take a picture the picture is muddled. I can view previous pictures taken when changed over to view mode.

Did you see the posting regarding the image sensor? I am exibiting the problems which sounds like it could be what you are seeing. I went ahead and send an email to canon. we will see what happens. I suggest you do the same.
