Question about Mr. Coffee ECM160
I followed the directions in the manual. Tried to make sure it was in the lock position-although it never clicked like the manual said it would. I didnt want to make it go farther since it did say you can break it by making forcing it past the lock point. I left it running for an hour and the coffee inside was still dry. The frother works, but no need for froth when there is no coffee. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

If your coffee maker is under a year old, take it to a authorized service center for free repair or replacement. If its over a year then the complete heating element assembly must be replaced. However, this part is only available to authorized service centers and is not sold to consumers.

Sounds like there are a couple of problems -
First, are you certain that the coffee basket is clean? If the coffee basket has a valve on the bottom that allows you to remove the carafe to pour a cup of coffee, make sure the valve is clean. Being dirty would cause it to trickle coffee slowly into the carafe, and will hold coffee in the basket too long.
2nd, you may need to flush the water heating system as they can become corroded with precipitated solids from the water.
To do this, mix 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water in the carafe. Pour into the coffee maker and tell it to make coffee. Do this a couple of times, using a fresh mix of vinegar and water each time. Pour the used mixture down the drain.
When you feel it is clean, follow it up with a fresh pot of water. Then wash and rinse the carafe.
The coffee maker is now ready for it's next use.

Vinager and water are great for cleaning your coffee machine just run the mixture through the machine as you would just plain water as if you were making coffee. It might take three run throughs to clean it well, some may suggest bleach however, it takes a few rinses to get that smell out and it tends to transend to your cup. Not a happy java experience.
You will mix it 25/75 vinager/water just plain white will do, nothing fancy. It works has worked for a long time. For at least 50yrs that I know of...
