ok this gets confusing sometimes. Ok first look to see what ohm your subs are. If you have a dual 4 ohm sub When you run that on sub + to + and - to - then that will make that sub 2 ohm. its different on ohm if the sub is say a 8 ohm then putting the wires that way will bring that sub to 4 ohm. Now lets say you have 2 subs that are dual 4 ohm and wire both of them + to + and - to - and go bridge the amp which would be both wires from sub both + together and both - wired bridge on the amp will make it a 1 ohm to the amp. Please post what ohm your subs are and i can tell you alittle more about it

The information I found on the amp is that is a 2-channel and is bridgeable. It is stable in bridged mode to 4 ohms. You should be able to bridge a single 4 ohm sub without damage to the amp.

Having two power and ground terminals allows you to run two smaller wires instead of one big one. It's a convenience. No, you do not have to use them both. They are connected together inside. Yes, you should still use a single fused battery lead. Connect the big wire and fuse holder to the battery and to a distribution block and run the smaller wires from the output side of the distribution block.

When you connect the outputs of a two channel amp to two separate speakers, each speaker gets the power produced by it's channel only. If you are using only one speaker, and the amp is rated to operate bridged, then the speaker will receive the power from both channels, typically twice as much. You do need to be careful when using bridged mode because many amps will only operate safely at a higher impedance when bridged. For example, when operated with both channels connected to separate speakers (not bridged), it may be stable to 2 ohms. But when you connect both channels together (bridged), it is only stable to 4 ohms. Usually, the specifications will tell you the lowest impedance at which the amp should be operated. The specifications for the current RF Punch 500.2 are like this: 125 watts X 2 at 4 ohms; 250 watts X 2 at 2 ohms; 500 watts X 1 bridged at 4 ohms (4 ohm stable in bridged mode). You would NOT want to connect two 4 ohm subs in parallel to this amp in bridged mode. It would result in a final 2 ohm load and the amp would overheat and fail. One 4 ohm sub would be OK, and it would receive the full 500 watts as stated in the specifications. You could connect four 4 ohm subs, two each in parallel to each channel, and the 2 ohm loads on each channel would be OK. Or you could series two of them together for an 8 ohm load, do the same with the other two, and then parallel the two 8 ohm loads for a final impedance of 4 ohms and connect them into the bridged terminals. With DVC subs the connection possibilities get more complex. There are many good impedance calculators online that can help you determine the best wiring solution for various amp/sub combinations. I like the one above at the12v.com web site. Rockford-Fosgate also has one which allow you to select the a number of subs (up to 4), their voice coil configuration (single or dual), and the voice coil impedance. The RF calculator then shows you what configurations are available and what your final load impedance will be.

most times it is L+ and R-. If the amp is bridegable. Also, make sure you don't go to low in the ohms. If your amp only runs at 4 ohms mono. Don't bridge it down o 2 ohms mono. If you have dual voice coil subs. bridge the coils of the subs in series, then bridge the two subs outside the box parallel.

I have Sony xm-2165gtx amp 165 watt rms x 2 at 4 ohm 200 watt x 2 at 2 ohm 400 watt x 1 bridge output at 4 ohm stereo or bridge mono output 4 ohm stable in bridge mode this mean can't go lower then 4 ohm...


You can't bridge that amp onto a load lower than 4 ohms. So you can't bridge that amp onto two 4 ohm subs. To get the most power out of your subs is easy. Run one channel to one sub and the other channel to the other sub. 165 watts RMS is plenty for most subs.

I'm sorry Please Clarify. ANY pair of subs you can run in a parallel series fashion and run them off of a mono amp. What is the model number of the subs, what voice coils does it have? and how many rms watts is each one. I can match u up for your amp and explain how to wire them.

You cant bridge it to the MONO AMP . You can only bridge subs & speakers to 2 CH & 4 CH AMPS that are bridgeable. Because if it appears that there is 2 channels on a Mono amp its so its convenient for you to hook up 2 4ohm subs to it easily But both channels are actually connect internally together in parallel inside the amp unlike a 2 channel they are separate.

So just connect your mtx 9500 to a plus and a minus and doesnt matter which since all the + terminals of are connected together and - are connected together already.

Whats important is on the side of the sub/box it reads 2 ohms. The lower the ohms the more power the Mono amp will put out. Mono amps are designed to handle 2ohm loads.

If it reads 4ohms The MONO amp is the wrong amp to use cause the power will be weaker. So if you have a 1000 Watt Mono amp at 4ohms the sub will only get 500 WATTS Max while a 2 ohm will get the full 1000 Watts.

If it reads 4 ohms connect it to a 2CHANNEL AMP and BRIDGE IT (connect + of the sub to 1st channels positive of the amp then connect - of the sub to 2nd channels negative of the amp) . The power will be doubled when you bridge it on a 2 channel amp. NOW if it was a 2 ohm sub and you bridged it to the 2 channel amp it will fry the subs and ruin the amp. 2 CHANNELS CANT TAKE A 2OHM LOAD BRIDGED OK.

I'm planning on installing a system in my pick-up and I was hoping I could get a little assistance. I was planning on using a pair of 5'' McIntosh ms486 coaxial speakers (120w max 4 ohm)in the front doors...


First of all use the larger output amp to power the sub. You can tell if its free-to-air if in the middle of the magnet there is a hole for "air" to flow freely. The advantage of free to air is they dont require much of an enclosure or next to none so you can mount it on a single piece of mdf wood and use the cab in the truck as an enclouse itself. I would bridge the amp for the sub to mono but be careful to tune so you dont "distort". Secondly the amp for the mid's shouldn't be bridged any maybe you could run the front and rear speakers off the same amp.. I would get an amp for rear and front speakers each and one for the sub. Your ouput rca's should goto the cross-over first then to the amp (sub) - then wired to your sub (mono) which is bridged. Ensure to tune your cross-over to lowest frequency for sub. Its easy to bridge an amp if its 4 channel.. looking at the speaker terminals it will look like ( + - + -) use the two outer most terminals to bridge to mono.

Bridging outputs on JBL BP300


Hello paulnkate,

The BP300.1 is a mono (1 channel) amp. You cannot bridge a mono amp. Bridging is a method of combining the outputs of 2 or more channels of a multichannel amp into a single mono load. On your amp you would connect a single sub to one of the +'s and one of the -'s (either one is OK, they are connected internally). The other pair of terminals is just for convenience, making it easier to connect, if you want to power 2 subs.

Got a 12"kicker L74ohm sub and sony xm-D9001GTR mono amp


Hello juan_penaloz,

The Kicker L7 has an RMS power range of from 50-750 watts and a maximum power handling capability of 1,500 watts so your Sony amp will power it OK. A more powerful monoblock like the Alpine MRP-M1000 or the Kicker 08ZX750.1 would provide even more power and could operate safely at 2ohms.

You have the voice coils wired properly for the Sony amp. It's OK to have the sub impedance higher, but you definitely do not want it lower than the 4ohms the amp is rated at in bridged mode.

Subwoofers


This will depend on the amplifiers capabilities.

I will give 2 different scenarios.

#1 Stereo configuration

If the amplifier supports an RMS power output close to the RMS input power of the subwoofers then run the amplifier in stereo mode. For example 150 watts RMS X 4 channels driven at 20-20khz. (If you can provide a model # for the subs and the amp your looking at I can help you further with this decision.

Wiring for this is easy and simply involves matching the connectors for 2 of the channels (Front or Rear) to each of the subwoofers.

#2 Mono Bridged mode.

If the amplifier is lower power but mono bridgable you can bridge two Pairs of channels and power each of the subwoofers this way.

Generally speaking a 2 channel bridgable amplifier will be able to at least combine the wattage of each channel into a single monural channel and in many cases its actually higher.

So you would bridge the front 2 channels into a single bridged mode for one subwoofer. and then you could bridge the read 2 channels into another bridged mono channel for your other sub woofer.

For example if you had bridgable amplifier thats 50 watts RMS X 4 you coudl very likely (Generalization based on quality of amplifier) send 150 watts RMS to each subwoofer.

Again I would need to know what amp you're refering to to provide specific wiring instructions. Many Bridging amplifiers either have a single switch that will send them to bridged mode or you would use the positive + terminal from one channel and the negative - terminal from the other channel or a combination of both.
