    hi, Yes this is a resolution issue. try a lower resolution for the TV desktop. Lower it.

    Try 600 x 800 first.
    But you cant see yet.
    Please tell me what version of windows you have and if you have a graphics CARD installed that is capable of DUAL desktop/multi monitor functions.

    Thank you *s*

Hi, boot up to an F8 and select safe mode. While there change your screen settings to 800X600.

The available resolutions in the windows operating system has to be compatble with the TV screen you are hooked up to. try lower settings first.
Thank you and god luck.

Why is the screen black on windows 8 cannot start computer

There can be several reasons why your laptop screen is going black after logging into Windows. To start with the troubleshooting, you can see if you are able to use Safe Mode to boot into your Windows 8. To know how to boot in Safe Mode, you can refer to the following Microsoft link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809468

If you are able to boot in Safe Mode, you can use "msconfig" to detect the issues that may be preventing your system from performing normally. To get a better understanding about what is msconfig and how to use it, you can refer to the following Microsoft support page:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/using-system-configuration#1TC=windows-8

If following the steps in the above mentioned link does not help, you can refer to the following HP support page for some more troubleshooting options:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03518165

Hope this will help you.

The screen resolution on the computer is set too high. Log in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key during boot and lower settings.

Screen says mode not supported h:53.4khz v;84.ghz

You should reboot your computer. Immediately after you see the BIOS splash screen (Dell, Acer, HP, etc...) start pressing the F8 key 2 times every second. If you're quick enough, you'll get the Windows boot menu. When you see the menu, select "VGA Mode". This will boot Windows with minimal video settings which are compatible with all modern monitors.

Once Windows loads, right click on the desktop, select Properties, go to the Settings tab, and begin sliding the resolution bar up from 800x600 and clicking Apply. After each change, it'll ask you if you want to keep the settings. If you can still see the screen, click Yes. If you get to a setting where your monitor goes black and says "mode not supported", then wait 15 seconds and it'll revert to the last mode that worked. Leave it there.

Here are some typical resolutions for monitors:

17" = 1280x1024
19" = 1280x1024
19" widescreen = 1440x900
21" = 1600x1200
24" = 1920x1200

Hope this helps!

It looks like you're encountering an endless reboot? Here's what to do to find the actual error message.

  1. Turn on the computer, and press F8 after the POST screen but before Windows attempts to start to access the advanced startup options.
  2. Select "Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure" and press Enter.
You should now get a blue screen with an error message and error codes. Please write these codes down and report back.

Screen Problems

It sounds like you need to install a video driver. You'll want to go to www.hp.com, go to their support section, and download the driver for your particular PC. As long as you know the model number of your PC, you should be able to find it.

Keep in mind that Win98 driver support is harder to find lately - you may want to consider upgrading to a more recent and better-supported OS eventually.
