ML-LMX mini-link barcode scanner and Windows XP

We're trying to put a new pc in the warehouse at my job (switching from Win 98 to Win XP) but whenever we goto scan a barcode using the ML-LMX both of the PS2 ports seem to freeze, nothing appears in the program and the mouse is now frozen. At first I just thought the program wasn't liking windows but I've also tried it in notepad with a simple 1234 as the barcode, no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
