Question about Sony KV-32S26 32" TV

1 Answer

Need to find a way to replace or repair the plastic housing around the front of the tv which has been cracked.

I am trying to find the plastic housing found around the front of the tv tube. There is a complete crack right through the spot where the SONY insignia can be found. Since this shroud or housing helps to support the tube I am afraid the tv is going to sustain further damage without somekind of immediate repair or replacement.

If it is plastic you can weld it or have someone do that. Body shops, auto body shops usually have this ability. I weld my own plastic with a tool from urethane company. Do a search for plastic weld tool. A
Decent kit is around $300 and fixes a lot of stuff.

Tv has sound but no pic until tv warms up (about 15-30 mins)

Common problem on that set.. Bad connection on the horizontal driver transformer would be a good guess. You will need to have good soldering skills to repair. It is located near the horizontal output transistor which is black and mounted to a silver heat sink and has 3 pins.. You will see the solder has cracked around the pins.. A tv shop should fix for around 40-50 depending on your location

Our Trinitron KV-36XBR400 powers up then no picture

How old is this tv?More than 5 years old.Not worth it to repair CRT tv at this prices.Tries unplug, replug an hour later, might help, see if reset itself.U can buy a pretty good 32" LCD tv at $400 or less these day.It not heavy as the CRT tv,it alot easier to move the tv around the house or other locations.

36inch sony xbr, mint cond, working perfect until the move, and it works great,no picture,it was dropped 4inches on wood, not hardwood is the flatscreen tube.1999. thanks mike

These sets have a weakness when moved.
You will need to check the area around the flyback transformer. (A large black transformer with a red wire out of the top). Look under the circuit board and near where the cabinet front and back meet. You will most likely find a crack in the circuit board, but never fear, the traces are very large in this area and can be repaired. After you gently remove the coating and expose the copper trace, you can solder a small wire were the crack is and you should be good to go.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I own the JVC AV-32F475 & my sound suddenly went out. My repair man says I need a new main circuit board because the one I have is cracked. Any suggestions?

I usualy fix broken boards but if the crack is around a very small circuit traces it will be almost impossible to fix it.

Plasma work fine but outer screen cracked.

it's hard not seeing the 'crack' but basically a real crack will allow the (plasma) gas to escape. if that happens just forget it and buy a new one if out of warranty.

if it really seems as tho there is a crack in the glass, I would just enjoy it while you can, and try not to ever move the TV as it may totally go at that point.

if under warranty get a tech out to the house before it expires. make them come out in this case rather than bring it in for the aforementioned reason.

My TV is making cracking noise

Its the plastic cassing making the noise. If you press the tv together along the edges you will here a crack. Samsung and others did not use 99 cent padding between the plastic and the metal you need cushion padding. Its like not using a gasket or seal. Its a simple fix but the tv companies say its expansion.

The dropped television

If it has a white line across the middle then it is probably repairable.
If the screen was cracked it could, but probably wouldn't work at all, not even a white line. The white line indicates that the vertical deflection IC has failed. Generally these IC are inexpensive and should only take an hour, if that, to replace. A good technitian should be able to repair it at a reasonable cost as well as check it over for other common problem areas.

Funai 13" TV with VCR Combo

You can check the remote by holding it very near an AM radio. Have the radio turned on and tuned about the middle of the AM broadcast band and push the button on your remote. You should hear a popping sound come through your radio speaker. If you can't hear anything, try moving the remote around and tuning the radio. If all fails then the remote is not working. If you DO hear the popping sounds then you have a problem with the IR receiver in you TV. There's a little plastic "window" in the front of your set where the IR signal enters. If dust has collected on the inside this could block the IR signals from entering. Also the IR receiver itself may have gone bad. The remote for this TV has to be an exact replacement. I've had this problem too by trying a substitute. Stargazer
