SOURCE: my ps3 system software cannot be run correctly

You need to download the latest firmware and copy it to a cd or flash drive.

Download the firmware here.

Towards the bottom there are instructions for install. I recommend using a flash drive.

Follow that and you're all set. ;)

SOURCE: i brought a 750gig ps3 hard drive yesterday and i

I'm not sure it can run a 750gb drive, I've always been told that the max was 500gb but that could have changed with new firmware releases.

Anyways you need to follow instructions on upgrading drive from Sony here.

Pay real close attention to each step or you will have problems ;)

Let me know if you get stuck and also please let me know if that 750gb drive works, would love to know.

Ps3 says connect storage media that contains update data of version 4.66 or later

Yep you need to update your system firmware, otherwise there's no way you can play that.

If your ps3 is cracked, you'll need to find a updated firmware as well.

Every time its gets to 62% is says an error with (8002F997) ive tired the method by swiching the media sever to disable but that didnt work. what eles do i do

Error code "8002F997" means your PS3 is having issues updating your system software directly via internet. As a workaround you'll use external storage media, such as a USB thumb drive, to transfer the software to your PS3

1. Requirements

- A USB cable (not necessary if using a USB thumb drive)
- A PC with Internet access
- Storage media or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive

2. Downloading and saving the software

- Plug in your USB drive to your computer, and create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Create a folder named "PS3" on the storage media/USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".

- Download the update data from

http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2011_0310_91ee193a2fa921a6fce780fc40236e3b/PS3UPDAT.PUP

and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.

Note:

Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

-> Location: Save in the "PS3" folder > "UPDATE" folder
-> File name: Save as file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

3. Updating the PS3 software

Note:

Do not turn off the PS3, or remove the USB drive, during the software update!

- Insert the USB drive/storage media into the PS3
- On your PS3, from Home Menu (second icon from the left) -> System Update ->Select [Update via Storage Media].

The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

The fact you're using a Macintosh system should have absolutely no bearing on your memory stick displaying the data for your PS3 to see. What may be the cause, though not very likely, is the format of the memory stick itself. You must first make sure you didn't accidentally change the format from FAT32 while saving the update to the storage. Another possibility is that memory stick may not have been formatted as FAT32 to begin with, which isn't very likely.

Check this first before continuing on. Once this part is settled, or if there are no changes necessary, proceed to the next section.

The next thing you must do is properly and immediately back up your game and save data before applying the update just in case something goes wrong. Once you've completed this part DO NOT enter safe mode again, instead, allow your PS3 to start normally and load all settings and data before proceeding to the next step.

From this point go to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media. Press X on the next screen when the system "sees" the data, accept the User Agreement, then start the system update.
