Reads CD's but not DVD's

I have a Kenwood DV-6050 that has been running like a champ for 2 - 3 years. I just put in a new DVD and everything went dark and it will not play DVD's at all. It will play music CD's though with no issue. This problemn seems to be similar to the one posted byt parisica a couple of weeks ago but I want to add my little piece about the CD's. I will take it apart and clean the laser and see if that help but with CD's playing I don;t know if that will help. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi I responded to Parisica's problem, so you have read the "bad news" already. All I can add, is that we see your problem quite often, and without spouting a bunch of tech jargon, lets just say it is easier for the laser to read Cd's than DVD's, so quite often when the laser begins to fail, DVD's will no longer play, but Cd's are fine. I'm not an expert on your model, but Parisica mentions a menu setting that turns DVD video on & off, which may be worth checking, and also cleaning may help, as a dirty laser lense can give the same symptoms as a weak laser. I don't want to get your hopes up, 2-3 years of service can certainly be long enough for laser problems, depending on how much you used it. Good Luck!

I got a DVD In the player now I can not find it. I have skipped disc and it is not there and for awhile I was able to put a disc in an it would play now it just says reading.

I would suggest to insert a lens cleaner and see if that helps. If it doesn't it means that the lens will have to be replace.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
tip

If your ps3 reads everything but blu-ray or won't read anything go by my steps.

Most likely you need a new eye.My ps3 wasn't reading neither. At first it was reading everything but blu-ray.Then it wasn't reading anything.Little circle in corner be spinning and everything.I cleaned my eye I used cd cleaner didn't work.My system is out of warranty so had to get it fixed on own.So i opened it got a q-tip wiped it off with alcohol switched ends. With dry tip and dried the eye off. That will help you if your ps3 reads everything but blu-ray.But all it was really doing is telling me my eye was dying.Suddenly it read nothing so I invested in a new eye.Put it in myself now she's running like a champ.Hope this help but if your system still play dvd movies and ps2 games.Your blu-ray is acting up go by my steps first. Before destroying your ps3 or buying another might be a 50 dollar problem.Compared to sony 160 to send you another used 1.You can find a blu-ray eye cheap this days on internet.

Clean the eye... try another disc, apex usually pretty robust unit. Glass eye near center spindle, clear alcohol, swab gently.
Loading indicates unit doesn't see the disc..

Re: Kenwood DV 605 CD Player... Power On: Reads "Loading." All 5 CD lights are lit up but the CD changer does not turn. CD #1 appears on screen with two green lights appearing.

ace71cf.jpg We repaired this problem by taking the advice of another member of FixYa! The component had recently been packed to be shipped. After unpacking the unit when we powered up the read out only displayed "LOADING" and the CD changer door would not open. We removed the exterior cover and gently moved the CD changer one position. When it locked back into position we powered up and the unit works fine now. FixYa sure help me save perhaps a $100. or more by not sending it to the manufacturer or another shop. And it was working within minutes so we could enjoy using it right away. Thanks guys I very much will recommend this sevice to others... this was the 2nd problem we fixed that day by logging onto FixYa!!!

Click here to find a store that sells the disk cleaner. Radio shack and computer stores should have it as well.
