I have a Kenwood DV-6050 that has been running like a champ for 2 - 3 years. I just put in a new DVD and everything went dark and it will not play DVD's at all. It will play music CD's though with no issue. This problemn seems to be similar to the one posted byt parisica a couple of weeks ago but I want to add my little piece about the CD's. I will take it apart and clean the laser and see if that help but with CD's playing I don;t know if that will help. Thanks for the help in advance.
I responded to Parisica's problem, so you have read the "bad news" already. All I can add, is that we see your problem quite often, and without spouting a bunch of tech jargon, lets just say it is easier for the laser to read Cd's than DVD's, so quite often when the laser begins to fail, DVD's will no longer play, but Cd's are fine. I'm not an expert on your model, but Parisica mentions a menu setting that turns DVD video on & off, which may be worth checking, and also cleaning may help, as a dirty laser lense can give the same symptoms as a weak laser. I don't want to get your hopes up, 2-3 years of service can certainly be long enough for laser problems, depending on how much you used it.
Good Luck!

Ever since I began buying players I've had the same issue: Most will play fine or OK for a while -sometimes a brief while - a month or so and then gradually or suddenly begin refusing to play DVD's it formerly played. The Pioneer I have now is only about 6 mo old - it got excellent reviews - played well for a couple of months. Now is refusing to play more and more discs - some that are brand new. Must players be replaced every couple of months? What is the probleM? Needless to say I'm not crazy about this technology and wish we'd all go back to VHS - pic may have been worse but at least you had a pic, right?
