You should put back the original sim and it should work. You can ask Vodafone for the sim unlock code, but they only will give that if the contract is over. Perhaps, when you can explain you have to go abroad they will give it sooner. With the vodafone sim in it you then should enter the code. But they will explain how.
Some (less legal) sites offer unlock codes for a fee, but it not always works.

To use the Telasta sim you first have to get an unlock code from Vodafone.

You did wrong step my friend, if your phone locked by sim card you need puk code to unlock samsung sgh-x830 sim lock pin. This puk code is unique and you only can get that from your network provider, that's what is going to be happened if you just insert any puk code from internet to unlock samsung sim card. Now the only option that you have is call your network provider and explain to them your condition, i hope your sim card can be unlocked otherwise you must change new sim card.

On the w995 the unlock code is generated from the IMEI number, but only O2 Ireland can generate the code that you require..

APN (Contract) wap.o2.co.uk (PAYG) payandgo.o2.uk
Username (Contract) o2wap (PAYG) payandgo
Password password
Auth. Type Normal

2 Edit Browser Profile
Go Back to the Entertainment > Services Menu

Choose WAP
Choose Settings
Choose Edit Profile
Create a new one, I've called it PAYG O2 and choose O2
Choose Edit Profile
Rename if required
Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.uk
Data Account: Select the Account setup in 1 Above
Connection Type: Choose HTTP and set proxy to 193.113.200.195 and port to 8080
Username and password should remain empty

There should not be any difference between contract and PAYG

Type this code in try *2767*3855# this will reset the software but backup you photos/vids etc before hand, if this doesn`t do anything then the phone is blocked its a paperweight...
