I'VE DONE A LOT OF READING ON THE OLYMPUS SITE AND IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR CAMERA MIGHT JUST HAVE BEEN SET ACCIDENTLY IN MOVIE MODE AS THE DEFAULT SETTING AND THAT IS WHY MOVING THE DIAL HAS NO EFFECT. THE PROBLEM BEING I HAVE YET TO DISCOVER THE TRICK TO REVERSE THIS DEFAULT SETTING FROM MOVIE AND BACK TO THE FUNCTIONS OF THE MODE DIAL. YOU ARE POSSIBLY IN A BETTER PLACE TO DO THIS PART OF THE FIX. I AM HOPING BY HEARING THAT IT IS IN A DEFAULT SETTING YOU MIGHT KNOW WHO WOULD HAVE DONE THIS AND HAVE THEM RESET THE CONTROL TO NORMAL.
IF THIS DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY RESULTS, PLEASE REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217 AND I WILL DIG DEEPER INTO THAT SITE TO FIND THE SOLUTION TO RESET THE DEFAULT! I WON'T LEAVE YOU HUNG IN TOON TOWN! WE'LL GET IT.

Sound on movie pictures

To have sound during movie mode: have the dial set to movie - press ok - right arrow to mode menu - look for the symbol that looks like a mocrophone and turn that from OFF to ON.

Make sure the memory card is inserted to the camera - dial in Auto - ok button - Mode Menu - Card tab - Backup option - Yes or No - highlight Yes and press ok - the images are copied from internalk memory to the xD card.

Are there any settings on the camera that must be set before you can use the external flash feature?

Yes, set the camera mode dial to P, A/S/M or any shooting mode except the movie mode. Turn on the extension flash unit's power then select the camera's flash mode. The flash mode button on the camera controls the built-in flash as well as the extension flash. Only the built-in flash and the Olympus FL-40 extension flash can use the red-eye reduction flash mode. All flash units can use the fill flash, flash off, and slow-sync flash modes.
