SOURCE: MCBR1020W, 10cf., new fall 2009, defrost stops working

Good day,
You have an unlimited warranty for the first 12 months, and are entitled to a proper repair.
Could be a factory defect.
My advice is get hard nosed with them. The people you are dealing with did not design the machine but are responsible to correct or research or worst case scenario replace the machine.
The factory will eventually compensate them.

Stopped freezing

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

Check the condenser under the refrigerator is clogged with lint. Make sure that the condenser fan underneath the fridge is running properly. You can get to it through the back. Check the coils on the rear of the refrigerator and make sure they are clean and dust free. Also check the back wall or floor of the freezer section for frost. Check the evaporator fan to see if it is running. Check the condenser coils under the unit for blockage from dust. Check the condenser fan under the unit to see if it is running. If you have frost in the freezer there is a problem with the defrost system and the freezer will start to warm eventually as well as the fresh food section. If that is the problem you can check the defrost terminator, defrost heater/s, and the defrost timer or adaptive defrost control If used on your unit or the main control board if so equipped. Also check the freezer to ensure it isn't over loaded with food stuff, reason being air must flow freely threw out the entire refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work correctly.

Defrost the freezer by disconnecting the power to the refrigerator and letting it sit for at least 24 hours with both the doors open to allow the frost to melt completely but it will build up again in 1-2 weeks and start the warming up again.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Mtb1953he fridge not cooling before it stopped fridge was making loud popping noise, i unplugged it then plugged it back in a day later to unthaw and fridge worked for 2 weeks now not working again. there...

It sounds like your defrost circuit is having a problem. Once frost builds up on the coil in the freezer compartment, air can no longer be pulled though the fins and circulated into the fresh food compartment. You notice things start to warm up. Eventually, the freezer suffers from the same lack of circulation and contents begin to soften and melt.

The defrost circuit consists of 4 main parts. They are: 1) defrost heater, 2) defrost terminator or sensor in series with the heater, 3) defrost timer and 4) wiring between the previous 3 parts.

The defrost heater is found in the compartment that houses the coiling coil. The defrost terminator or sensor is clipped or otherwise secured to be kept in physical contact with the cooling coil itself. The defrost timer may be located anywhere the manufacturer decides - a popular spot is in the toe space on the bottom of the fridge. The wiring, well, that is between all the parts. Chances are the wiring is fine - as would be the connectors to the individual components.

The defrost timer runs about 8 hours. About 20 - 30 minutes in that 8 hour period the defrost switch operates. This consists of switching power away from the compressor (so it shuts off) and to the defrost heater and defrost terminator. The heater is just a relatively small value heater that warms the compartment to melt any frost or ice from the cooling coil fins. It will be powered for up to 20 - 30 minutes by the timer or less - if the defrost terminator senses a rising temperature on the coil. This means that the heater will be on for either 20 - 30 minute OR until the defrost terminator gets warm enough.

If the timer is stuck - and never moves to the 20 - 30 defrost cycle, the frost on the coil will never melt away. If the timer does work, but the heating element has failed, the frost will never melt away. If the defrost terminator has failed open (preventing the power from getting to the heater), the will not work to melt the frost off the coil. If there is a loose, missing or damaged connection between the wiring harness and these components, it won't run as expected either.

Make sure there is continuity through the heater. When cold (below freezing) the terminator should also have continuity. Many are designed to open around 50 degrees F - so if you warm it up, you should see the continuity go away. The timer needs power to run, and will send power to either the compressor or defrost heater - never both at the same time. Check with power disconnected. Use care checking live circuits - and only work live circuits when you need to check for presence of power - otherwise, unplug!

I hope this helps. Please rate this reply - thanks!

Fridge stops working and warms up for half a day then will cool back off and start working for a day or a few days. When it warms up everything in the freezer defrosts but will then refreeze a day later...

Check your defrost thermostat in your freezer access panel. Your defrost timer could be faulty, Your defrost timers ussually run for 12 hours and defrost runs for 30 minutes. That being said that is why I believe your timer is getting stuck on run and then eventually it finally gets unstuck and goes into defrost. Eventually it will get stuck in one place or another.

Whirlpool stopped blowing cool air. Unplugged

It sounds as if your defrost timer has failed. Unplugging the unit over night allowed the unit to defrost. If unplugging it overnight or by using a stnd fan blowing into the freezer section for 90 minutes results in the fan blowing cold air then your unit is not defrosting. Most often the defrost timer is the problem. However there could be other defrost circuit like the thermostat or the defrost element. In order to provide you with the correct solution and defrost timer location you should privde your model number for further instructions.

the problem is in your freezer !
open the back wall of your freezer and check if the fan working then if you see a big build up of ice. then its your heater unit or your heater thermostat. to check that it is the problem unplug the unit defrost the freezer coil with hair drier gently and when it done plug it again and see if your fridg get cool (1h or 2) then you know its the heater unit or the thermostat :(

It has to be jumped started ,once that is done it will start for the rest of the day.not sure if it is the glow plugs and how to get access to them

If starting fluid has been used on it in excess, what happens is it fractures the compression rings enough to lower the compression making it hard to start, therefore running the battery down. Once it starts for the day the metal expands in those fractures from the heat and seals. Then when its cools they contract, causing low compression again. If you do a compression test while it cold then again after it warms up it will tell the story. May not be good news, but it may stop you from doing un-necessary repairs.87f3a84.png

Engine runs fine, no problem want's tempature is

I had a similar problem with a Ford Excursion, it turned out to be intake manifold gaskets. It would stall then start right up again, it ran fine during warm up. But, once fully warmed up it would stall at stop lights and stuff like that. I did get a check engine light, the code was lean condition. I don't know on a Jeep, sorry I can't be of more help.
