The cd dvd cdrw internal will play dvd's but not cd's so ican't reformat. Both the internal drive and an external drive give the same errors 1. "the driver detected a controller error on devicecdrom1" or 2 as the case may be. 2. "service control manager The application management service terminated
with the following error:The specified module could not be found."
when a cd (not a dvd) is put in the internal or in the external drive it starts turning then stops thenstarts...etc at aprox. 3-4 second intertervals, apperentaly listing the two error reports each time (39 pages of the same error reports.) Windows reports the cd drive is operating normaly and the windows media player (11) is up to date and compleat. (wish that were true!!!!)

Hi, Try to set-up your bios setting need first boot cd/dvd drive.Power on your PC, then press F2 to go bios setting, change first to CD/DVD drive first boot and then insert your cd or dvd operating system.if same problem. try also yung USB external cd or DVD drive.
To ensure the CD/DVD is clean please try booting from a known working PC, from what you are describing it may not be your CD drive
If the same thing happnes on another PC then it is the CD/DVD that is faulty, however if it works, then you can try to hook up a external drive, the laptop may defualt to it after trying all the other options i.e. CD rom drive, HDD etc

as soon as a dvd writer drive only starts to play cd's, cdrw's or only reports that you have a CDRW drive when inserting a blank DVD, the writers laser is worn out or faulty and no longer recognises dvd's, and so needs replacing i'm afraid, but as you may know not all dvd drives are hot swapable and need to be replaced by a repairer.
