Motherboard Issue Hey guys Ive just started a networking class, and I want to mess around with Window 2003 software on my gateway computer, the problem is every time i try to get into bios, it asks for a setup password. Ive tried removing the cmos battery for an 1 hour without power and I move the jumper from 1 and 2 to to and three for 5 minutes without power but it does nothing. Can anyone help me out?

I figured out the answer, if you turn off the power and remove the power plug you move the jumper which is located to the left of the Power supply motherboard connection(if your looking from the front side towards you) and you move it into position 2 and 3 and this will add a maintence option when you log into the bios giving you an option to clear passwords

Your bios updates are here, If you are trying to overclock I do not believe that this can be accomplished with this particular board though.

SOURCE: Turns on, no bios no screen, just beep.

Now the question is, when the computer first starts up and you hear the beep, that is where it will tell you what your problem is depending on the beep you get.

One Long and one Short Beep = Motherboard issue
One Long and Two Short Beeps = Video (Mono/CGA Display Circuitry) issue
One Long and Three Short Beeps = Video (EGA) Display Circuitry
Three Long Beeps = Keyboard error
One Beep, Blank or Incorrect Display = Video Display Circuitry

If it is the last one, then try doing the following.

1. Disconnect external devices = Unplug everything from the back of the computer and then restart it. If it starts up, then it is one of the peripherals that is plugged in. You will then need to turn off the computer and gradually plug each one in and turn the PC back on to see if the peripheral is the problem. If that isn't the problem, the proceed to #2.

2. Cable check = With the computer shut down, make sure all the cables within the PC are attached properly. Once you finish doing that, turn on the PC and that isn't the cause, continue on...

3. Disconnect all expansion cards = Sometimes another expansion card can become loose and cause various amounts of issues. Remove each expansion card (clean them if necessary of dust) and replace them. Turn on your PC. If it doesn't start move to the next step.

4. Disconnect all drives = disconnect the data cables from the CD-ROM, hard drive, and floppy drive from the motherboard (make sure to mark them so you remember where they plugged into). This will either remedy the situation or you will see an error when you reconnect each device one at a time to determine which device/cable is causing the issue.

5. Remove the RAM = Loose or bad RAM can cause PC's to not boot or boot incorrectly. Remove each stick and replace them one by one alone in each memory slot. If the PC boots up in each slot, then your golden, but if a slot is defective, then your motherboard is damaged in that slot. You can still use the other slots as long as you use the defective one. If a stick of RAM doesn't allow your computer to boot up, its quite possible that stick of RAM is defective and will need to be replaced. But make sure you try out all the other options before throwing away a stick merely because the PC doesn't boot. A faulty stick can be the problem, but if the problem lies elsewhere, you may be throwing away a good stick of memory thinking it may be bad.

6. Disconnect and reconnect the CPU = Most CPU's are easy to remove, but if you aren't familiar with it. Read your manual on how to remove the CPU. Once you remove it and re-seat the CPU, reboot your PC.

7. If after you have tried all the previous steps and your PC still doesn't boot, then it is most likely that your motherboard, CPU, RAM, or power supply is defective and must be replaced. If you are unfamiliar with fixing the problem (or have never built your own PC) you can opt to have someone repair it or you can start with the cheapest option of purchasing a single stick of new memory and see if the memory was indeed the original problem. If the PC still does not boot with new memory, then it is most likely your motherboard, CPU, or power supply that is dire straights.

How to download wireless

I'm assuming you are referring to the Wireless Network Adapter. Gateway has several different ones (which I'm sure you noticed) depending on which one was installed on the build date. To find the correct Network Adapter click Start, then type "Device Manager" (w/o quotes) and press Enter. In the new Device Manager window, look for Network Adapter(s) and click the "+" to expand it. At minimum, there will be two there, one factory installed and the other is the one you installed. Right click the adapter and select "Properties". This will give you all the information to download the correct driver for your computer. Return to Gateway's download site, locate the same driver and download it. I've had to do this a few times with my Gateway NV79 Notebook due to deliberate corrupted drivers during PC Hardware/Software Troubleshooting classes.

Cant find my ip adress

Greetings - It's fairly easy in Windows.

Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar. Click 'Run...' on this menu.

Type 'cmd' in the text box that appears. A command prompt window launches on the desktop (white text on black background).

In this command window, type 'ipconfig /all" then hit ENTER. Details are shown for each of the computer's network adapters. Computers installed with VPN software or emulation software will possess one or more virtual adapters.

The 'IP Address' field states the current IP address for that network adapter (you'll have just one).

Happy Networking!

How to set up uverse home network with 2wire gateway

To use AT&T Uverse for a home network, you need to get the AT&T "Homeview" Network Management software. AT&T provided this software in the past freely.

This software must be run on each PC on your home network, and then each PC can see the others. You then use go to My Computer, select each disk drive you want to share, right-click and select Sharing and Security, and select to share the drive. Then go on the drive to the folders you want to share and right-click and set them to be shared. Then the Homeview system will show these are shared folders. You can also share printers on the same network using the Homeview software.

My audio doesent work Ive tryed dozens of times to get the drivers but I cant please help p.s. I have gateway E-2000

darylsg,
I see you have two posts for the Gateway E-2300.
From time to time software does not install when using the software's *.exe file.
There is another way to install driver software when using windows. Create a folder on your desktop & name it sound. Download the driver file named, Soundmax5240.exe, from Gateway's web site into this folder. You'll need to uncompress the *.exe driver file. You may need Winzip to help you to do that.
You can download the trial version for free. Click on the next link for Winzip; (Download version 9.0);
http://download.cnet.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10003164.html
Once installed open the folder named sound. Right click on the file name " Soundmax5240.exe " & from the pop-up window find winzip & click Extract to here. (All files will uncompress within the folder).

Sound driver link;
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20099&dscr=SoundMAX%20Integrated%20Digital%20Audio%20DriverVersion:%205.12.01.5240&uid=230675307

Install through windows device manager. (Here's how to do this).
Right click once on My Computer & from the pop-up window click properties. Windows System properties window will open. Click the Hardware tab & than click on the Device Manager button. Look for a yellow pair shaped icon with either a " ! or an ? " in it. You might see unknown PCI device.
Right click once on the explanation point, a window will open & Left click once on “update driver”. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Left click on the green check mark once & it will go away.
Click the browse button, click the + sign next to my computer. Find the “Sound” folder on your desktop. High-light it by left clicking on it once. Than click OK. Windows will search within the folder & install the correct driver software. If this still fails to install than it is more likely the motherboard has a problem with the Intel chipset.
Enter your bios & make sure the Sound is set to Auto.

Good luck!
Mike
