Refridgerator not cooling

Just noticed internal temp in freezer up at 50-deg and melting. Internal lite on, do not hear it running. Looking at cleaning coils and finding a reset. Then will hit compressor. Will check fans for free spin and look for ice plug. Where is the reset button?

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2012

When I pulled it out from the wall, I noticed that the compressor was warm and not moving, and that both top and bottom fans were working. I tapped the compressor a few times while looking around for some kind of reset button, and the bottom fan started. Blew out minor dust from coils. Then I checked the internal temp in freezer and found it had returned to 20-deg. Moved thermometer to refrigerator to see if it is in good range. Watching.

SOURCE: temp problem. freezer temp 0 deg. fresh food 46 deg.

An hour aint enough. Turn off fridge, use blow drier, thers a huge ice cube behind that sheetmetal wall back of freezer inside wall, it takes 48 hours at 75 degrees to let it do itself. Listen for inside motor, its obvious. If so, you hve a defrost problem.

SOURCE: compressor runs, very little cooling, internal fan not running

You will need to unplug refrigerator and open plane inside freezer to see if fan is stuck or burned out. If freezer is frozen over with ice you will need to warm the ice for removal. Let me know, when you are ready, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: fridg not cold. freezer works, defrosted coils, what next: do I replace controller or compressor?

Your refrigerator does not have a simple defrost timer, it has a expensive defrost board. The replacement part number 8201659 it may be found possibly by a group of different company's. At this point I have only found Sears parts direct. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?pop=flush You can go to this site and put part numbert 8201659 in parts search and play less. http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/ The offer free answers and help. SOURCE: Freezer cool but not cold

It sounds like it is due for a shot of freon (or most likely R-134A), and most fridges have a crimped coolant line instead of fittings to connect to for recharging. Call a few refrigerator repair guys and get some quotes, and then compare the price of a new, more energy efficient fridge. You will probably decide you are better off just buying new, considering the average life span of white goods is around 10 years, and no telling what will go bad next.

SOURCE: will not keep refridgerant for more than a month

rarely does the compressor leak on these sealed units, have someone certified put in some leak tracer dye into the freon/refrigerant system and when or where it leaks out there will be a florescent leak spot you can find with a black light tube light anywhere in the sealed system

GE side x side refridgerator temperature is

unlikely both temp.sensors will be faulty at the same time. Notice how different the internal temps.are compared to the acurate one you are measuring it against. Almost certain board is defective because incorrect info in the processor will tell the compressor/s to switch off before time.(hence not correct temp. all the time.) Suggest replacement.I normally replace probes as well to eliminate problems later..

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

GE Fridge: PSS26SGPA SS Model

CallMe-

Your "freezer" and "refridgerator" temps are not jumping back to 14 and 44 respectively. When you change temps, they both wait 3-5 seconds before they revert back to a temp reading, not a temp setting.

Does your "freezer" make any loud or thumping noises? If not, do you hear a quiet whisper when both compartment doors are closed?

Solutions could be :
1. Servicing the coolant (might have a small leak)
2. Checking the seal on your freezer compartment (black rubber that meets the metal frame)
3. Your internal cooling fan is not operating and needs replacing (but I think your temps would be significantly higher).

Best of luck.

Internal cooling fan not working?

Theif,

I concur with Robo, 120 degrees is normal and nothing to worry about. I have a Harman AVR-245 that idles at 118 deg and peaks around 122 in a room with ambient temperature of 70 on a Sanus open-air stand. My Yamaha RX-1700 idles at 124 and peaks around 130.

This is not necessary but you can reposition the temp sensor in most Harman AVRs. By default the sensor is screwed into the aluminum heat sink on the back-right side near the illuminated volume control. If you look closely at the heat sink you should be able to spot another pre-drilled hole closer towards the power supply. The power supply is the main source of heat. This is where I attached the sensor.

After repositioning the sensor I have not noticed the fan come on. But with
Harman's build quality being suspect, having the sensor in a more appropriate place gives me piece of mind.
