Question about Toshiba Televison & Video
- from the Channel Setting I tried the AUTO - I asked the cable provider to reset my account and tried the Channel Setting again. - apparently the signal of some channels is weak and they suggested that I set the channels manually, they gave me a list of the frequencies. Sometimes the recorded material just shows horizontal lines black and white but the voice is fine.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Resetting the Recorder to Factory Settings
1. Make sure that the recorder is on
2. Press and hold the STOP button and STANDBY/ON button.
The recorder turns off with all settings reset.
Try this and let me know if it works.

Regarding the Black and white lines
You need to click menu scroll over to the right and select reset to factory settings.
I know you can not read the screen so try and follow the steps below.
After fixing mine by carefully reading the screens I went back and retraced the steps and counted.
Follow these directions. Do not go too fast or you may miss or lock up.
Turn the machine on.
Then with the remote
1). Click the button Settings
2). With the right arrow (blue directionals) click 5 times slowly. Slowly.
3). Click Enter button
4). With the down arrow (blue directionals) click it 2 times.
5). Click Enter button
This hopefully Resets your machine back to Factory settings.
It worked for me.

Unit must get the TV guide from an analog station. If cable company goes digital you loose the data. If the station that hosted TV guide goes digital you loose the data. This unit does not have a digital ATSC tuner only analog NTSC tuner. If you are still getting analog data there are a few capacitors on the power supply under the hard drive that bulge up and cause problems. They should be replaced with higher voltage rating types.

Hi and welcome to FixYa
Initially, postback the model number of the Comcast digital adapter and the TV.
Offhand, if the Comcast digital adapter is connected to the Sony through a coaxial patchcord, then the Sony would really have to be set to Ch 4 (or 3). Channel selection is done on the Comcast digital adapter. It is not possible to record one channel while viewing another.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa
