Question about Toshiba Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a HDD/DVD VIDEO RECORDER RD-XS24SG. lately I have a problem with channel setting, at AUTO it does not find all channels. My cable provider suggested that I set the channels manually. I checked

- from the Channel Setting I tried the AUTO - I asked the cable provider to reset my account and tried the Channel Setting again. - apparently the signal of some channels is weak and they suggested that I set the channels manually, they gave me a list of the frequencies. Sometimes the recorded material just shows horizontal lines black and white but the voice is fine.

Resetting the Recorder to Factory Settings
1. Make sure that the recorder is on
2. Press and hold the STOP button and STANDBY/ON button.
The recorder turns off with all settings reset.

Try this and let me know if it works.

Regarding the Black and white lines

You need to click menu scroll over to the right and select reset to factory settings.
I know you can not read the screen so try and follow the steps below.
After fixing mine by carefully reading the screens I went back and retraced the steps and counted.
Follow these directions. Do not go too fast or you may miss or lock up.
Turn the machine on.
Then with the remote
1). Click the button Settings
2). With the right arrow (blue directionals) click 5 times slowly. Slowly.
3). Click Enter button
4). With the down arrow (blue directionals) click it 2 times.
5). Click Enter button
This hopefully Resets your machine back to Factory settings.
It worked for me.

SOURCE: Panasonic DMR-E85 DVD recorder TV Guide problem

Unit must get the TV guide from an analog station. If cable company goes digital you loose the data. If the station that hosted TV guide goes digital you loose the data. This unit does not have a digital ATSC tuner only analog NTSC tuner. If you are still getting analog data there are a few capacitors on the power supply under the hard drive that bulge up and cause problems. They should be replaced with higher voltage rating types.

Hi and welcome to FixYa

Initially, postback the model number of the Comcast digital adapter and the TV.

Offhand, if the Comcast digital adapter is connected to the Sony through a coaxial patchcord, then the Sony would really have to be set to Ch 4 (or 3). Channel selection is done on the Comcast digital adapter. It is not possible to record one channel while viewing another.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa

I am having trouble in connecting the new dvd recorder . I think ,I am missing some thing on the initial set up to receive the channels our present configuration is ... 1.R F cable input to set top box,...

I found your model information on a site which provided something I was going to ask you if I could not find it.DVD recorders need either a digital input from a cable box or a self-contained digital scanner(yours does not have this). So,you need to hook up as follows,External cable into cable box input, cable box output into DVD recorder input,DVD recorder output to TV coaxial cable input(usually labeled ant.)the screw on connector anyhow, you should know what I mean it seems. In this configuration, you should not need to turn on the DVD recorder to watch TV without recording because they usually have a bypass mode when there is no power on the DVD.If you have picture in picture(PIP),you should be able to use the main source to record and switch over to the PIP channel if you do not want to watch what you are recording.Do about a 10-30 second test of that just to make sure though so you don't end up all messed up.Oops.My bad...you do not have PIP.As long as the cable box is tuned to the channel you want to record, you should be able to use the TV's tuner to watch something else with no problem. When doing this on VHS recorders, sometimes the screen would get fuzzy and you would have to press the TV/VCR vutton on the VCR remote.I do not know if a DVD recorder will do it or not as I have yet to buy one,but when you do your test recording, you can mess around with whatever you want to see what happens so you will be fully prepared when you do it.If you need more help or have a problem/question,just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and will reply ASAP.Good luck! Don't know how to set channels w/new cable box.

Use channel 3 or 4 or hook up the RCA jacks. If you use 3 or 4 leave it on that channel and use the cable box to change channel. Use RCA jacks (best) turn the channel on the recorder to line in ether LINE1 or LINE2 with one you plug it up to and leave it on that channel.

No sound through channels on hdd dvd

If you are taking output from the Red, Green Blue connectors (Component) from your video source and plugging them into your hd dvd recorder, you need a sound channel as well. The S-video carries both audio & video but not in high-definition. Sounds like you've got the 3 channels for your video (RGB-component) connection now you need an audio signal into your HD DVD recorder. That will be 1 fibre connection or 2 cables. Let me know if you get it working & good luck!

Cable box, digital service, channels not appearing

connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.
