Cannot install xp on vista machine

Hello
i have an acer L3600 desktop slimline computer ( i am in australia) it has vista premium home installed. i am trying to re-format and install win xp on the machine (there are drivers available for xp!) however, before iot asks me to enter serial number of the xp , i get the blue screen of death , with the stop error = 0x0000007e. after this when i reboot, vista is still there and everything is owrking ok under vista. it seems the computer does not like, xp - but it should , there are xp drivers available in various places on the internet for this machine.

thanks benimur - it is richard again

i don't know what you mean about deleting the existing partition , what does this mean?

I thought when you attampt to re-format (remember I have vista pre-loaded) with XP, it does all that for you?

    regards richard

Stop error = 0x0000007e

CAUSE loadTOCNode(1, 'cause'); This issue might occur if a system thread generates an exception that the error handler does not catch. This exception can be caused by any of the following: • If this issue occurs after the first restart during Windows Setup or after Setup is complete, the computer might not have sufficient hard disk space to run Windows XP. • The computer BIOS might be incompatible with Windows XP, or it might have to be updated. • The video adapter drivers might be incompatible with Windows XP. • A device driver or a system service might be damaged. • If the issue is associated with the Win32k.sys file, it might be caused by a third-party remote control program.
*******************************************************************
Try deleting the partition of your hard drive during the setup, after that create a new partition on unpartitionated space, format the disk and install xp on it.

This will be fixing your issue

Have a great day
Pablo :-)

Follow the following steps ;

Disconnect all external devices like printer\scanner. Only keyboard and mouse should be connected. make sure you are not using any wirless keyboard and mouse.

Insert the Windows XP CD and then turn off the computer
Restart your computer and boot from CD
Select the option for New install
Delete the existing partion and then reformat using NTFS quick format
Complete the step and it will successfully get installed.

Once installation is complete install the network driver, connect to the internet.
Install the Windows update and then and antivirus program
Once done download your other drivers and you are set to go.

Thanks

    Hi again,

Let's put it this way. Formatting is like paving an old road, while partitioning is making a new road. So when you formatted, it was basically the old road except with a new surface. To completely remove Vista, the old road must be torn down (delete old partition), create a new road (repartition) and pave it new (format).

When you pop in the Windows XP CD, deleting the old partition is among the very first question wherein you have to press "D" to delete, "L" to confirm and eventually"Enter" to do so. Thereafter, the you will be asked to format NTFS (but not the quick).

Pls try above described choices and postback developments.

    Cheers.

    Richard,

Interesting. It would seem the the road has to be specially prepared (partition) and not just paved (formatted), it must also be graded (the missing step; downgraded specifically). What threw me off was that the downgrading requirement was meant for an Aspire M5630 but turned out likewise necessary for an Aspire L3600.

Pls see this page for the downloads for an Aspire L3600.
Somewhere near the bottom would be two (2) files necessary for downgrading machine from Vista to XP:
    Hard Drive Prep Application
Post Acer Disk Formatter CD ISO Image

    Pls follow online instructions.

You can get the drivers by going to the manufacturers web site. As far as the programs, most of it was nothing but bloat that clogs up your machine so you're probably better off without them.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download andinstall the drivers.

I just got cod waw game but computer doesnt support vertex data am i wasting my time. I have acer L3600

Hello there,
COD WAW has a minimum system requirements of the following:
CPU: AMD 64 3200+/Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz
RAM: 512MB (XP) / 1GB (VISTA)
HDD: 8 Gigabyte
GPU: 256MB Nvidia 6600GT/ATI Radeon 1600XT
One main reason why you cannot play the game, is that Intel GMA 3100 is not capable of rendering the vertex shaders that has to do with lighting.
  • In order to play the game, you need to buy at least greater than the PCIE video card mentioned. It's that simple.
  • For example buy an ATI HD 4670 512MB or Nvidia 9500GT 512MB consider the memory.
  • Click the link for PCIE Video card installation procedure. Installation

Hopefully you will enjoy COD WAW third person shooter game.
Hopefully this information helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

Replace the Vista Home Premium with XP on ASPIRE M1202

Your best option is to upgrade to Windows 7. It is free for (I believe all) Vista users, and you can run programs in XP compatibility mode.

I would suggest going with XP Pro first off but what you need to do is get into your bios and change the boot priority to the cdrive as the first device then harddrive as second. Put your XP disc in and reboot the computer after a few moments you should see press any key to install ...... this will start you off with the install from here on follow onscreen instructions.

Onsce at windows desktop you will need to get a ton of drivers and this is were the fun comes in. Use support.intel.com for all intel devices inside the system. After that you will have to goto your device manager and see what still needs to be installed. Now you will have to hunt down the manufacures websites and go to there support page and get needed drivers.

Downgrade Acer M1641 from Vista home premium to Windows XP

Its a driver incompatibility issue. Many hardware components designed for Vista are incompatible with XP. This means that the Realtek audio driver may be the Vista version. Also, some hardware has of yet no XP drivers, so your audio components were designed for Vista only.
While it may be possible to "force" the driver to work, it may involve a number of hacks to the Windows registry and other files.

Windows XP on Acer Aspire M1610

Hi Watashifr,

First you will need to boot up. When you do this you need to go into bios and then go to boot and disable the hard drive floppy and any other drivers. You must make sure you keep the cd driver as 'able', save setting and exit out of bios. This will let you reboot. After it`s done, the partition in the computer will reboot the computer. Make sure to go back into bios and able the hard drive, floppy etc...
I had the same problem, and solved it this way.
