I have a problem with my ram

I just bought an MSI P7N platinum mother board, with a quad core 2 processor. My video card is nividia 1gb( not sli), the ram is 8gb. My problem is that in the CMOS setup the 8gb is displayed but when i checked it in the windows my computer properties, its only 3gb... i tried contacting the dealer but they only answered that the ram is being shared by the video card? ?????
i just don't really get it? My video card memory is 1 gb why does it have to share the memory form the ram? Your answer will be of great help... thank you in advance

Dear John,

If you are using windows 32 system,it will only detect 3gb.If you want to use all the 8gb you have to
install windows 64 operating system.
All the best.

That motherboard does not have a video circuit built-in, so the video sharing the system RAM does not make sense.

Have you checked the valid system memory configurations in your MSI manual pg 2-7 ?
Any chance that the bios is set for dual channel and you don't have equal chip sizes in the dual slots? Example : In dual-channel mode, equal size chips would go in slots 1 & 3 and in 2 & 4

Defective RAM is a possibility also.

Note1: Per MSI, all ram may not register correctly in windows unless 4 of the 2GB chips are used

Is the MSI-K9N SLI-Platinum (MS-7250) capable of running an HD capable video card?

I would recommend upgrading your RAM to 2GB or even 4GB before investing into HD video card. It might be jerky. Your processor should be ok for it as it is.

I am not able to get my computer to turn on could this be a problem with the cmos battery on the motherboard. Everything else works I tested them on another board

Hi valsol138,

All you need to do is go to a drug store and get a Energizer CR2036 battery and replace the one on the board.

Good Luck,

No beep,No Display on my monitor, only CPU heatsink fan is moving

You motherboard has onboard video. It's possible it needs to be disabled and the option changed to use the pci or pci-express slot for the Ati card you installed. Since you have no post error beeps this is the best place to start. Also I had built a system not to long ago and had a similar problem. Resetting the cmos on the motherboard (usually a pin combo) solved the issue.

Start by hooking up your vga cable to the onboard video.

Hope this helps.
