Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: my ps3 is not reading any discs
MY son's PS3 give up reading Game & DVD disks 2 days ago, all the shops in town sent me on a goose chase about it. Look at the support section on your console or phone the number at the back any PS3 game manual and speak to the help desk for you country. They will give you a call reference. A currier will be sent to pick up your beloved console, Sony will repair it in 14 - 21 days and return via the same currier. If you are lucky they will do all this for free, even when out of warrantee (I have a conspiracy theory on this). But was very pleased with Sony's response. Good luck, My currier comes on 6 Jan 09 after phoning in today, Andy

SOURCE: Ps3 disc drive not working.
You've done everything I would have done honestly. Take a can of air and blow it into the drive to make sure dirt or dust isn't on the laser which could affect if it sees discs or not.
The better thing to try if you are good at opening up your ps3 and then removing your drive and opening that is to take a damp q-tip with a bit of glass cleaner and clean your laser in the drive gently. Then put the drive back together and hook the cables back up to the ps3. You can leave the cover to the ps3 off for this step. Turn on the ps3 and try different blu-ray, dvd's, music cd's, game discs, etc. If it still doesn't read any of them then either the laser or the drive i bad. If it reads some discs and not others then its a weak laser and the laser would need to be replaced.
If you have to replace the laser or the drive, you can do a search on Ebay and usually find them fairly cheap.
Hope this helps and let me know if I can be of further assistance.

The best thing to do in such a situation is to call send the item back to Sony and have them replace or fix the item for you. I can help you in the process.

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play
