Cocomick, the power supply converts your AC to DC.

Polarity matters very much on the pin to the device, after the conversion. It does not between the wall outlet and the power supply.

Ac adapter for the maxter 3200 is 12v AC 2amps polarity dos not mater as in dc. this is because the current is alternating between betwen + and - at 50htz henze when doing worke on mains like diskonecting kookers ets thay tell you to turn the main fuse swich off although cookers shower units do have a duble pole swich.

Try a different "data" cable between your computer and the external disk-drive.

If there is an external power-supply, borrow a "multimeter", and test that the power-supply is supplying power (correct voltage and correct amperage).

Try connecting it to another computer.

Disassemble it, and disconnect the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, and see if the disk is working.

If it still is under warranty, either your local retail store, or Maxtor/Seagate will honour the warranty, and replace it.
