Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
We haven't used this mailmate shredder by staples for a while and when I turned it on, it won't work! I don't know what to do. Please help me! Thanks!
I took my mailmate out into the driveway. got in my truck and ran over it two or three times. it doesn't work any better but I feel great.

It looks like there is a switch attached to the back of the unit that kills the power when you remove the trash drawer. I believe that when you empty the bin the piece attached on the drawer that activates the switch falls off with the shredded paper thus leaving the unit dead.
Any idea where to buy parts ?

Yea mine died after about a year. Not much usage on it either. So I took mine apart after drilling access holes in the bottom for the six screws. You'll need a long philips scew driver, about 10 inches to take the screws out. I replaced the blown 5 amp fuse. This is soldered into the circuit board. So I soldered a removable fuse holder as I'm sure this will blow again. I used parts from some other electronics that I keep so I can repair the useless products that are made now.

Important note on getting the power switch fix in the back to work while toggling it on and off to reset the shredder. Make sure to pull out the paper bin while you toggle the power switch on and off a dozen or so times and then put the basket paper bin back in place. When you power the unit back on the forward button should work again and the shredder should feed paper through properly.

I took my Mailmate back to Staples and exchanged it for the model that took it's place. It's been working great. Since it was still under warranty when I took it back, it didn't cost me anything extra. SteveChen, I never got to try your solution but I salute you for having the determination to fix it yourself! From what they told me at Staples, the upgrade has eliminated the power problem. Apparently, the last model was just plain crappy as is evident in the number of people in various forums who have had the same problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new model is indeed free of power issues!

My unit had a blown fuse on the internal circuit board- it's soldered onto the board, so not so easy to replace. Just getting the main shredder unit separated from the base took some time to figure out- it's glued-in on the front panel so some careful prying and separating are called for. Then the screws are easily accessible with a regular #1 phillips screwdriver.

I just fix my mailmate shredder. I had same problem- no power, no blue light. Problem is power switch- top of unit.
After remove all screws- good luck, you need LONG-LONG screwdriver and one short screwdriver with out handler, because few screws almost imposable to remove. I did make few holes on bottom of unit to remove 4 screws.
you have two ways to fix switch problem-
1. replace it, if you can find new switch.
2. solder two wire to switch and make a hole on top of unit. when you need to power unit, turn back switch on and touch two wire as switch.

My Staples Mailmate Shredder stopped working during heavy use. The power light would come on, but when I tried to put a piece of paper in, it wouldn't shred. The reverse light would come on, but it wouldn't go in reverse. The forward light came on when pushed at that point, but it wouldn't shred. I turned it off for over an hour and then tried again. This time it worked!
I ruined a previous Mailmate. I thought my son put too many sheets in, so I quickly squirt lubricating oil on the sheets while they were shredding, thinking it would help them go through easier. Instead, it made them stick together and jam up the machine. I got another because I liked it so much.
I'm currently working on shredding 3 years of tax returns. This machine is a workhouse and I highly recommend it. Just empty it when it's full and don't put too many sheets in at a time. Give it a rest of at least 15 min. every so often during heavy use.

I HAVE A MAILMATE SAME THINGS HAPPENING BUT LAST SATURDAY IT BLEW UP IN OUT FACE .,., PLEASE BE CARFULL AND THE COMPANY IS TELLING ME DIFFERENT THINGS THEY MAKE IT AND THEN THEY DON;T AND NOW THE COMPANY THAT MAKE IT IS GOING TO CALL ME.. MY HUBBY ARM HAIRS WERE BURNT AND I FELL BACK AND GOT ALL THE SMOKE IN MY FACE EYES AND NOSE,.., BEING PASSED AROUND BUT TOLD NOT TO DO ANYTHING THEY WILL ARANGE FOR A PICK UP??
