Question about Boating
Not sure of the year but i'd guess an 86 model maybe. the way to start the boat is turn the key and pull the cord. it fires right up. It won't start thought when i turn the key. it doesn't make a sound. I guess my question is if theres a diagram to follow to wire this or how do i need to get this thing firing when i turn the key? not to good with electrical things also so explain in very good details please. anything would help.
Does your kill switch still work?? IF NOT - GET THIS FIXED QUICK!! Get a multimeter,, set to volts.
You need to have power to the stater solenoid first..The solenoid is the "switch" that transfers power from the battery to the starter..the solenoid has heavy duty contacts that transfers low current to a high current for the starter.
. You need to determine if you have voltage to the solenoid..with the KEY ON.. check for voltage on the connection from the battery -it should be 12 + volts.... if YES, ...then CAREFULLY jump the major solenoid threaded studs with a screwdriver.(the one with the battery cable and the one that goes to the starter...((((SPARKS WILL FLY - and could cause a FIRE!!)))) IF the engine starts, you have a bad solenoid. If you do not have voltage going TO the solenoid.. you need to check the battery terminals, check the solenoid connectioins... and have your battery checked for COLD CRANKING AMPS... you can actually have 12 volts and NO amperage to "drive" the voltage..the symptoms would be exactly as you describe!!!

disconnect the lower unit from the power head . makeing sure where the shift rod position is . then you will be getting near the water pump impeller .if you get it wrong the shifting won't work
