Major problem with sony kp-57ws500

Convergance went out and replaced the stk's in it. Turned on tv after that and heard a pop. Convergance got worse and had no sound just static. Found a convergance and audio board. Used but they did work in other tv. Put the two boards in. Now I have no sound at all and light guns do not come on. Getting 5 red blinks on standby light. What happened?????

So do you think that for some reason the boards that I have are bad for some reason. Because before I took out the old boards I still had a picture but static for sound after the mess up. Now I have nothing. Any Idea on that.

Now I have a off the wall question here. Looking at everything. I do see were I had a small piece of soldering that touched on the old convergance board. Now could there be a problem with the line that comes off the power supply to the audio board. I think that it could be hooked up backwards on the audio board. Would that cause a problem with anything?

I do appreciate your help. Last question before i trash the tv. Is there any part on the A board that could have gone out that would not allow the sound or light guns to start. I can hear the normal click sound when you push the power button. Also I have read about something called IK Blanking. What is that? I am almost sure that I can get an A board. Do you think that would be worth trying at this point? Only last board to change out.

    Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you;re making progress. The switched wires on the audio board definitely could cause no audio and the solder short could have caused your convergence problem. Now I'd be looking at the G board abd the audo board (since you may have hooked it up backwards) to see if you can find out what popped.

The only reason I suspect the boards you swapped is that you got an entierly new symptom when you put them in. Rather than try to figure out why they caused a new problem, it would be easier (in my opinion) to go back to what you have before. The loss of sound and convergence getting worse kinda points me in the direction of something in the power supply failing (the only thing common to both the audio circuits and the convergence circuits is the power supply)

A 5 flash shutdown is categorized as a white balance failure and can be caused by video drive IC failures, CRT drive IC failures or the screen voltage being improperly adjusted. I'd go back to your old boards and try and locate the source of the pop. Start by examining the soldering on the convergence IC's you just replaced and making sure you didn't accedentally bridge or short out some of the pins, The pop you heard was likely a component in the power supply failing. Possibly you had nothing to do with the part failing in the power supply; sometimes when the convergence chips fail, they take other components with them. Hope this helps..

Yes, if you have a dead short on the A board (could be caused by several components) it will not allow the secondary power supply to start, thereby killing off your pics and sound. IK blanking is , simply described, the monitor of feedback from the CRT's to determine if they are functioning correctly. I think you are thinking of the IK stop line, which puts the set into protection if low or no feedback from the CRT's is detected. You can try t he A board to see if it helps, I'm betting you have deeper problems on the G board though. Sorry!

Tv turns on but has a shadow around evrything

Do you have any speakers or magnets next to the tv? If so, that is not good.
It may be a convergance issue. Check to see if you have any adjustments on the back of your tv to adjust picture. If not, if may be a faulty capacitor that needs to be replaced

Nothing happens. power on,can hear click

I had the same problem, but I saw the events leading to it. I was watching TV, went to help the wife, heard a pop, came back to find the TV off. Turned it on, heard the same click you described. I believe you need a new bulb. Mine lasted around 2 years of heavy use. Bought two on ebay. Make sure to consult your manual for the particulars on the bulb.

Sony 57 inch

Hello

there is two STK packs in your TV, this is what controls your convergence,it should be two big IC on big heatsink and number should start with STK- ______,just replace these STK packs and you can order these from matelectronics.com. Parts should be somewhere around $30 and also make sure that resistors around stk packs don't look like they been hot if they look like they been hot just replace them too, and your TV will be working fine.

Thankyou
