Normally you can toggle the f8 key on computer. you can also go into display setting and it will show the two monitors and you can change it there.

SOURCE: Displays desktop background but nothing else

I discovered that my laptop supports two monitors and the projector was acting as monitor #2. By changing the priority of the monitors I have got the information I need on the screen, but now not on the laptop. However, I can work the two from the screen and that will suffice for the moment, until I can find a way of getting the information on both!

SOURCE: Probem with connecting projector with laptop in vista OS

Hi,

You need to change your graphics card settings from extended desktop to cloned desktop.
You will find that if you use your mouse currently to drag a window or icon across to the projected screen, it will move the window there. This is the extended desktop.
I assume that what you want is to have the exact same screen on your laptop and your projector - this is called the clone screen.
These setting can be by right clicking your desktop, select properties. Click on the display settings tab. click on the advanced settings button, and the the graphics card tab. There should be another button to launch the graphics card settings there.

Hope this helps.

Projector starts, goes into search mode with a laptop plugged into it, but does not connect with the laptop.

Try looking at your screen resolution settings on your laptop. For Windows right click on the desktop screen then click screen resolution, or display settings and see if the projector is recognized on your laptop. If yes try changing the resolution as the laptop may be trying to connect at a resolution that isn't supported by the projector.

Hi,

Try lowering your laptop's screen resolution and refresh rates to the lowest possible.

Additionally, you need to press Fn + F? keys on the laptop to cycle on laptop display, laptop display + external; display, external display.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Only showing background of computer

Check your computer's (I bet blind that it's actually a laptop) video output settings. It's most likely defaulted to "extended" or "dual screen" mode... which can be useful in some cases to e.g. let you set up a powerpoint that shows an unmolested image of the slides on the projector whilst you control it with a rather more option-heavy display on the laptop screen.

However if you really want the projector to just directly show what's on the internal screen itself, look for a mode called "Clone", "Twin" or "Mirror" (or something with a similar meaning)... or just cycle through them until you find one that works.

Mind that most projectors now are both lower resolution and have a different shape output to a typical laptop, so expect that one or other of the displays will end up seemingly distorted somehow, either stretched/squashed to fit or with horizontal/vertical letterboxing (black borders). It's quite likely that your internal display will end up being crunched down to match whatever the projector reports as its native resolution... do not panic, it's not a fault, this is fairly expected behaviour. At least, so long as it goes back to normal when you unplug the projector, of course.

Unfortunately I can't predict which of the above will actually happen, as every manufacturer has a different in-house standard for default behaviour, and the combination of two devices potentially from different marques being connected together only multiplies the possibilities. Just muddle through as best you can ;-)

You can choose either.
If you select duplicate, it is useful when you have to give a speech or lecture and you are facing the audience because the projected image is behind you and you can also see the image on the laptop when you face the audience.

The screen resolution on your laptop may be set too high for the data projector. Try reducing the laptop's screen resolution down to 1024 X 768.

Cannot get the Projector to see my emachines D620 Laptop screen. Press FN+F^ my computer screen goes dark but nothing shows at the projector tested the projector worked fine with other laptop

To check if the external video port on the laptop by connecting an external monitor to the laptop and see if it works. If it does work then the video port is OK and the only thing I can think of is :-
What is the highest resolution that the projector can display?
Is the video resolution on the laptop set higher than the projector's maximum resolution, if so reduce the screen resolution on the laptop.

Laptop computer connected to projector.

When the projector displays the background image and the lcd displays the desktop as normal you can drag the open windows to the left or right and display them on the projector. it sounds like this laptop has an internal video card. If you right click on the desktop it might give you options to configure the display settings for the video card. Not sure how you will get to it if it does not show up on the right click menu. Probably through the start menu or in the control panel there should be somewhere to change the settings for the video card. This will no be under the display settings though.

But once you find your dual display options you will be able to change it to make both displays the same

Gateway laptop 450ROG video issue when using a projector

Honestly from the information you have listed it sounds like the issue is with your projector, not your laptop. If your laptop was having display issues it would be consistent on anything it was attempting to output display to, such as your monitor.

The projector sounds like its out of focus and possibly has a bad back light in it, I would suggest contacting the manufacture for a possible resolution.
