I have the same problem with mine. It will just lock up. The only solution that I have found is to stop the disc, open the compartment, and gently slide the lens mechanism up and down the full range of movemnt. Then I have to restart the disc, find the place that I was at when it locked up. I think it might be that the guide rails inside the player for the lens mechanism might need to be lubricated with some some sort of silicon. I'm leary of taking the thing apart to try this theory out though.

Sorry, it's not possible. The DVP-FX810 is one of many Sony players where the region coding cannot be hacked without making internal hardware changes. To do so is not cost effective when you can buy perfectly good multi region (or at least hackable players) brand new for £30 including a few Sony models which can be hacked (e.g the excellent DVP5980 with progressive scan, USB input, DivX and HDMI upscaling, still widely available at clearance outlets for under £30).
If you want hackable players avoid Sony and Panasonic unless you have found a model specific hack prior to purchase as many of them have the same limitation.
Sorry there's no fix on this occasion, but I hope that you've found my reply to be of some use. All I ask in return is that you rate my answer.
i have the same problem, i put any dvd and it freezews during the play. there is nothing to do, must restart and sometime have to wait one day before i can restart. i have tried at leat 12 different dvd and it freezes everytime on every single one of them. I have tried clening... no success. Now Sony replacement plan cost 150.00!!!! I have paid 200.00 for the player. At this point i hsould buy a new one or get a replacement? Probably replacement but at that price I feel i am buying a new one.... I am disapointed with Sony. Don't buy DVP-FX810 seems i am not the only one with the problem.
