Use a ethernet cable and connect to a port on the router, open a web browser and in the address bar enter the ip address for the router. e.g my address for my router is 192.168.1.1 then press enter it will ask for a user name and password, the default ID and password is admin this should take you onto the router. also you can use the reset button to reset the router.

How to setup router name & router password

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Does the linksys-G support WPS or AOSS?

Good question, I have the same router & Brother HL-2280DW and ran the printer setup CD from Windows XP SP3 via temporary USB connection & it seemed to work. The WAN report on the printer itself says OK, however the computer can't seem to find the printer "No devices could be found on the network." I let setup make changes to Windows Firewall, not sure about Microsoft Security Essentials however. This seems like a nice printer/copier at a nice price but this setup is frustrating! PS If it's a security issue I'd like to say thanks to all the hackers for ruining technology for everyone, your junk is responsible for slowing down & complicating computers & technology in the world. Someone please do everyone a favor & start making antibodies that *kill* viruses & spyware & spam and clean & speed things up for a change! All these villians - Where are the cyber super heroes????

I'm trying to connect a new laptop to my router. I don't know the security key. How do I find this? And how do I get this to work??

In which computer you have inter net in that computer please click on START and click on RUN in that box enter CMD. You will get command mode. In that command mode type this command. 'ipconfig'. You ll get the ip address and gate way. Please close all of the window and open internet explorer in that same computer and enter the gateway ip address in that address bar. it will open new webpage. then enter the username and password of the router. in that window you can find the wireless settings and security key. If you don't know the username and the password of the router please open this link and find the name of your router in this page and take the username and the password. The Linksys Wireless router is fine, but your latop is not configured for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). The computer is connected to the router at layer 2, whereas HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), sits
atop the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) layer, and seems to be trying to
query the ISP's (Internet Service Provider) network for a nameserver (via DNS (Dynamic Name Service) protocol) that doesn't exist on the ISP's network. Configuring the laptop for DHCP and specifying no nameserver will fix this (the ISP's network will dynamically assign a DNS).

Its also possible (though a remote possibility) that your Linksys wifi router may be configured to disallow TCP/IP virtual circuits to/from your computer's IP address - but this is a really advanced
capability of your Linksys wifi router - few know this capability even exists.

Connecting multiple wifi devices to the Linksys router should be no problem, just configure them all to interact with the router using DHCP.

Bought a d514-4 port,router @ a yard sale with no CD

There's no need for any CD-ROM.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to the WAN port on the router.

Use another Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the 4 'LAN' ports on the router.

Restart your computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
Look for output like: Default Gateway .... 123.456.1.1
Start Internet Explorer
Type http://123.456.1.1
Press Enter
Login to the router's web-site (try 'admin' & "blank"; try 'admin' & 'admin'; try "blank" & 'admin')
Run the router's "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard" to configure the wireless adapter.
Done.

First make sure the wireless card driver is installed.
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure wireless card in the laptops and orcomputers with the router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

How do I access my router? I type in http://10.0.0.1 and all I get is search results not the router itself. I have been able to do this in the past. Thanks

I understand that you are unable to access the configuration page of the router WGR614. Please perform the below task on your computer connected to the router:

A. Click on Start then go to Programs and go to Accessories and open Command Prompt.
B. In Command Prompt window, type in 'ipconfig' and press 'Enter'. Note down the IP Address, Subnet mask & Default Gateway here.

Please try to access the configuration page of the router using the address that you got in the 'Default Gateway'.

Hope this allows you to resolve the issue. Please revert back for any further clarification.

Regards

Anand

We had to have at&t reconnect our dsl service. we had disconnected the Linlsys now we can't get it to work.Help please

Turn the DSL modem off.

Turn the Linksys router off.

Turn your computer off.

Check that all the cables are correct & are connected:
* 2-wire or 4-wire cable between telephone wall-port and DSL modem;
* 8-wire cable between DSL modem and the WAN (or 'Internet') port on the router;
* 8-wire cable between one of the LAN ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.

Turn the DSL modem on, and wait until its blinking-lamps settles down to a repeating pattern.

Turn the router on, and wait until its blinking-lamps settles down to a repeating pattern.
Ensure that the lamp for the WAN connection is on.

Turn your computer on, and let it boot.
Ensure that the lamp for one of the LAN ports on the router lights up as the computer is starting.

After your computer has booted, your router should have assigned an IP-address to your computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
You should see an IP address like '192.168.xxx.yyy' for your computer,
and a similar IP-address for your "default gateway".
If you see an IP address like '169.254.xxx.yyy', then your computer has *NOT* obtained a *valid* IP-address.

Also, your router should have obtained an IP-address from your ISP (AT&T),
and you should have Internet access -- try to access 'www.CatsThatLookLikeHitler.com' (or any other web-site).

All of a sudden, I can't connect to the internet. My network connection is asking for a security key. I have never had to do that before & I have no idea what it is. Please help.

Someone nearby may have created a new wifi network, and your computer is trying to gain access to it. The first thing to do is to verify that you are indeed trying to connect to your own wifi network by checking the SSID of the network. Or, you can physically move closer to your wifi router and see if you can then connect as expected.

If you're still having trouble after that - you'll need to access your router's setup pages via a computer that has a network cable connected between it and one of the LAN ports on the router. Login as usual with your username & password credentials and then change the SSID, encryption and the username & password information. If you are unable to login, then it is very possible that the person(s) that took over your wifi have also attempted to lock you out of it. You'll have to consult your router's manual to learn how to perform a hardware based factory reset. Once this has been done, you'll need to set up your variables for your network again. Make sure you secure the wifi to prevent unauthorized access again. This mean using WPA instead of the comparably very weak WEP security AND then locking down access to the setup page with a new username and password.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thanks.
