Keep getting message Press Enter to Align Cartridges

Even when I press enter and the printer aligns the cartridges and prints out the test sheet, it still says Press Enter to Align Cartridges. I also tried opening the top of the printer and closing it. Same thing happens. I also tried turning it on and off. I can give it the order to print something from the computer and it prints fine.

hp should stand for a hope and a prayer, I'm buying a lexmark. HP has refused tech support and kept me on hoold for 1 hour 45 minutes for this issue. Last year they were able to give me a reset code that worked now they are trying to sell me a new or refurbushed printer. No more money to HP!!! plus ink refills cost about 35$ and you can count on having to buy 3-4 a year, Lexmark here I come.

Aclark189 I posted the following problem on October 25.
I was disconnected from my first on line chat with tech support, but I was able to complete my second on line chat with tech support. I was advised that I had to replace the empty color cartridge, and when I did that, the copy function worked.
Thanks,
Annie Clark

There are quite a lot of reasons that ink cartridge alignment can fail. Fortunately, HP.com has documented these problems and the solutions:

Ink Cartridge Alignment Solutions

Good luck and post back your results.

lazymz, did you click the link I previously posted and read through all of the contents of that page? Annie Clark (Guest) found out that she needed to replace any empty ink cartridges in her printer to get alignment to work. Also, if you have a machine that does semi-automatic alignment, once the page prints, you'll need to put the alignment page on the scanner bed, print-side down, and make a copy of it to complete the alignment.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that the instructions are printed on the alignment page itself. If not, go to the link I previously posted, open the web page and scroll down to Step four. Then continue to scroll down a bit more until you see the subtopic, "Models with a semi-automatic ink cartridge alignment". Follow the instructions and see if that helps.

Good luck and post back your results.

How do I reset my hp officejet 6110 all-in-one printer? It keeps asking me to align cartridges.

Press menu and then press the Right Arrow key until you get to maintenance screen then press enter.
Option 2 is you align print cartridges.
Automatic cartridge alignment
Perform the following steps to align the ink cartridges:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the unit, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit.
2. Print another alignment test page. If the Press Enter to align message is not currently on the front panel display, complete the following steps to print an alignment page:
1. Press Setup or Menu on the front panel (depending on the model).
2. Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
3. Press the right arrow button (>) until Align Print Cartridges is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
3. To determine if the automatic alignment is functioning correctly, look into the output tray as the alignment page is printing; a blue light should be visible periodically on the page as the cartridges move back and forth. If this light is not visible, the product will not be able to align the cartridges and will require service. Service the product.
4. If the blue light is visible and the alignment pages are printing correctly, but the alignment pages still fails, there still may be a hardware problem with the unit.
If there are no other printing problems and you wish to continue, use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. The information from last successful alignment will be used.
If the message keeps reappearing or other print quality problems occur, service the product.

Printer cartridges wont align says alignment failed and then paper too narrow

I request you to perform the steps below to align the cartridge:
1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. Press Setup.
3. Press 6, then press 2.

This selects Tools and then selects Align Print Cartridge. The HP all-in-one prints a print cartridge alignment sheet and aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the page.

Hp2210 message ''press enter to align cartridges'',

from user manual::
To align newly installed print cartridges
1. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
The HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment sheet.
NOTE: If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.
If the alignment fails again, you might have a defective sensor or print cartridge.
Contact HP Support. Go to www.hp.com/support. ....
2. Load the print cartridge alignment sheet print side down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page to the left.
3. Press the Scan button.
The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet

Score the solution and download the manual if you need it

Align cartridges error

This means one of the cartridges is defective, they cant align if they cant print.  What i did to fix this problem is insert 2 working cartridges and get it to align properly, even if they are low on ink, then lift the cover and the cartridges will move to the center.  When this happens pull the power cable out, then insert the full non functioning cartridge. Plug the power cable back in.  I tried this with a color cartridge, the color cartridge was non functioning but i was able to print in black.
Basically you align the cartridges and then swap them so the printer thinks they are still aligned.
The color still doesnt work and it is probably a defective color cartridge.

Align page message

I have an OfficeJet 5780 and I have to do the alignment also. The allignment page it prints should have instructions on it. Just put it in the scanner and press "Enter". It needs to scan it to align the print heads.

This is from the manual on their website:

The HP Officejet prompts you to align cartridges every time you install or
replace a print cartridge. Aligning the cartridges ensures high-quality output.
To align the print cartridges when prompted:
1 Press Enter on the front panel.
An align cartridges (test pattern) page prints.
2 Load the align cartridges page face down in the ADF between the paperwidth
guides and press the Enter button again.
3 Recycle or discard the page.
