"Drag and Drop" was the method Microsoft wanted for the PC's. Macs already had it.- You just need a CD burner and a blank CD. The license issues I will not go into because the process is the same for any files you want to burn to CD.

How you want the CD to format- for use only on some Cd players and most computers? Or Most CD players? That is where the difference exists.

Starting with a CD in the drive, you can use (with a high failure rate) Microsoft Media player7 or higher, or a more structured program like "Burn Aware Free"- this latter program will work with CD burners as well as DVD burners. The first screen it opens to is the type of disk you want to make. A CD ROM will hold easily hold more than 200 to 300 songs if they are burned as data- the Audio CD has additional formatting and will usully hold only 20 songs or less. They also need to be CD audio format to play on the most numbers of CD players- some will not recognize MP3 files or other different audio files (usually the older drives that made it this far.)

With either program, you can drag the files from the folder over to the main information field of either program and "drop them" Then you can select "burn."

Also make sure to "close the disk", otherwise it will only be readable on drives of the same manufacturer as the one that created it.

If you just drag and drop to the CD via "my computer" you can then "right click" and "Burn to CD" in data form.

I'm trying to burn a CD but the 'CD full' info comes up. This is probably because I have recorded more than 80 minutes on the system. Any idea how I can get round this, for instance by splitting the...

Yes you can splitting recording in two.
What kind of data that you want to burn?
If miscellaneous, you can compress before burning.
If mp3 songs or video files,a little lower the bit-rate.
Blank CD is 80minutes/703MB.
It is recommended to leave 4-10MB to be used by the system.

Try transferring the song into a playlist on itunes, then click the burn cd button. If this doesn't work try a different cd, the one you are using might already be used or the incorrect format.

I'm trying to burn a song to a CD-R using a Boss BR 1180 but every time it completes, there's no song on the CD. I record, bounce, record on 9/10, then try to write to CD and it never works.

"it never works"... this is NOT enough information for us. You are not telling us how the CD is tested. If you are testing it in a boombox type player, that is not a test. First thing is to look at the bottom of the CD to see if you can detect written tracks... with right lighting you can tell if it has been burned. REMEMBER that CD's, unlike phonograph records, are written from the middle outward. Many consumer players have trouble playing CD's that are written but not "finalized". If you CAN see written area (compare to unburned CD) then likely the burning is taking place, and the problem is the format is either not complete or incompatible with your player. Try reading the disk in your computer. Also you might want to visit the forums for the Boss/Roland workstations at

Hello, I have owned a Roland V Studio 20 for around 8 months now and it had worked perfectly until about 3 weeks ago when songs that I had already recorded and played back fine suddenly started getting...

Kill all spyware and anti-virus programs and internet connections and wireless WHILE doing audio work. ALL these resource HOGS **** time from your processor and cause overuns of the buffers in your audio interface.

Do a control-alt-del to bring up the Windows task manager and look at what processes are running and sucking processing time. Even things that check for updates sit there and periodically grab processing power.

When burning CD's the same goes as well... during burns, the processor needs to be purged of these interrupting resource hogs.

In the last three weeks I have been continuously hit with updates from Adobe, MS, and Sun (Java) that interrupt and **** time, often at the most inappropriate times. These continous scanners for updates MAY be what are hitting you. Do any updates and then kill and disallow updates while doing your audio work.

Pmp3000 got hit by lightning 1 leg of the ic2

Th TOP221P chip is available but I can almost guarantee you have other damage as well. I assume it is pin 5 that burned. D7 and C16 would certainly be destroyed. IF IT IS ANY OTHER pin, you will find many other parts destroyed. D7 is a common 1N4007 and C16 is 4.7mfd/450VDC. Remember to carve out any burned baord material as it is conductive.

For the chip you can procure it here:

Not reading cds

There may be dust inside the unit on the laser. Try shoting some compressed air in the CD drive area to clean out. Also, ensure that the CD surface is clean, and try a different factory made audio CD. Sometimes CD players have problems reading "burned" CD's.

BR-1180 Cd will not burn CD's does it call for

Don't know if this unit is sensitive to the type of CD, but my Phillips recorders will ONLY burn the "Music CD's" (harder to find, more expensive). Read up on the difference of regular vs Music CD's. ALSO some recorders will not burn disks rated at lower or higher rates.

What do I need to burn a cd from my pc with the br 1180

This Is real simple grab a cable that goes from rca jacks to a headphone jack then plug the rca jacks into the br-1180's audio out jack and then plug the other end into your computers mic port.
Download Audacity From and then use it to capture you audio and then you can burn that when complete.
Its real simple I do it all the time even though I have the br-1180cd the cd burner burns real quiet so I don't use it. The cable can be bought at radio shack, best buy, wal-mart and I have even seen them at 99 cent only stores.
If you have more question let me know This Is my main unit so I know a lot about it.
