Question about Heating & Cooling

I have a Carrier Gas Pack Model # 48GS-024060301 and it's just blowing cold air. The mechanic said that it would cost me $500.00 to repair it. Is this reasonable?

I have what sounds like the same problem ----sort of---- actually my unit is still working ok, but it is starting to make a funny noise when the heater starts and cuts off. I had the unit checked for a "winter start up" check over, not really for the noise. The service man immediately noticed the noise and said that the Combustion Fan Assembly was going bad and that it was a common problem with those gas pack units beween 5 and 8 years because of the moisture around the blower assembly.

My unit is a 48 GS 2.5 tons and has been in service for 6 years and 3 months. The total price to replace = $ 776.00

When the heater is on, should the fan outside on top of the unit also be working along with the blower from the heater ? When the heater is off, cold air is comming from the vent's, can I cover the

No. This is strictly a gas package unit, not a heat pump. the condenser fan motor should NOT run when their is a call for heat from the thermostat. The condenser fan only runs with the compressor on a call for cooling. Hopefully the compressor is not running @ the same time, but if it is, it would make sense that the contactor for the compressor & condenser fan motor is stuck closed OR the low voltage cooling wires are shorted straight to a 24Volt control wire.

I have a RUUD gas pack unit.....when you turn on the heat, the blower does not blow any air out of the vents while on "auto". If you put it on "on" it blows cold air out of the vents. What is wrong?

Sounds like the thermostat is hooked up wrong. If the ac doesnt work right its in the thermostat programming or the wiring. Hope this helps good luck

My Carrier XQB 184 D just quit blowing out cold air. I couldn't hear the compressor working at all. Is this a problem that can be fixed without too much cost or should I just buy a new one and do you...

SOME OF THESE HAD A 5 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE COMPRESSOR. CHECK YOUR WARRANTY, THESE ARE ARE NOT WORTH FIXING. I WOULD LOOK FOR YOUR LOCAL SMALL AC REPAIR SHOP AND ASK HIM ABOUT REPAIR OR CAN YOU USE IT AS A TRADE IN , MAY GET YOU A 5$ OFF

(HVAC) Furnace Not Igniting Quickly

Make sure a back draft in the flue is not happening. Wind can blow it out until the flue heats up. The flame sensor may not be close enough to the burner flame. It may be weak and need to be replaced or if its an optical one it may be dirty and not see the flame very well. Its not wasting much gas but it puts extra wear and tear on the gas controls, is noisy, and, as you said, blows cold drafty air. A gas control system that has issues of any kind is not real safe. It needs to get fixed.
